*UPDATE* Turbo 3rd Gen at Street Worlds

I was at Orlando speed world for the World Street Nationals. This is the fastest third gen I could find. Huge turbo, not sure what kind. All body interior and tubs were carbon fiber. Looked awsome, sounded like a jet.

I respect that its a fast car but I really hate it when I see third gens done like that .
I prefer having a stock looking car that has good street performance.

You don't have to make all of your thirdgens like that.......just have one like that to harvest titles from the mustang crowd!

Uh. I respectfully disagree. It's the stockest looking thirdgen there, no cowl, no hood scoop, simple blue color, no flashy paint.

When you see it racing Mustangs that are 'done like that' and winning, it brings a sense of third gen pride.

I like it also go figure
as weird as it sounds I think that is a intercooler and then his intake tube goes out through the firewall

Its the intake, see the engine bay, the plenum gets air from behind the firewall, not from the front of the car like is typical.

That's a ice/water intercooler I think... not sure, I know the air from the turbo went through it. The air plumbing was so big it had to be routed through the firewall and into the cockpit, the air intake is actually through the firewall where the distributor should be, and the distributor is on the front of the block. That's a big block with a big turbo, leaves very little room for intercoolers and plumping and stuff. The car ran 6.9-7.2 or so, in there if I remember correctly. And it's street legal. The fastest street legal cars at the event were running low 6's at 230-240 mph.

seems street legal enough to me. besides on the street you can take off the chute and put on street tires as needed.

streetable. yeah, thats an air to water intercooler taking up the passenger seat. thats one sweet car. does it have stock style suspension up front, or do coilovers use similar looking mounts?

6.9?!?!?!?!
Is this the fastest thirdgen out there (not to mention street legal)

and it sure is a beaut. And those times kick the crap out of any ls1 f-body's out there. In fact I've never seen any gen f-body run that fast (streetable or not)

Did I read wrong? If not, this is one car all of us thirdgenners can be proud of. Man this just made my day

Thats the coolest thign i've ever seen right there. It is a clean ride one of the cleanest rockets i've ever seen before . i love the dual chutes out abck and those tires in the rear are absolutely rediculously massive, makes me happy.

I love the look of the rear end in that first pic, just has a hell of a huge look and the sideskirts give it one wicked look. Anyone else notice he's got clear side markers too.

You should have found him and told him to get onto thirdgen.org i dont think we have to many of those cars running around here.

Well the event is called The fastest STREET car world nationals, so every car in the show had to be streetable. Yes at the track they ran slicks, but all the cars had to drive I think 10 miles from a local restaurant to the track in order to be allowed to qualify, to prove it could be driven on the street.

its called sarcasm...LOL....i know how the "street" car nationals are .....the cars are about as barely streetable as they can be.....but all they have to do is drive like you said 10 miles or so without overheating and bieng able to stop and turn ....LOL

Id be willing to bet that the blow-off valve popping right next to the driver is not quiet.

I would like to see that beast pass emissions here in California. The only thing he could pass is some cash under the table to get it certified. 'Streetable' is a relative term and different state to state.

Visual No way..... but in a sniffer test it would pass better then a new car off the lot. Its been talked about in the poweradder forum befor. the exh crap getting filtered back through the turbo and burned etc makes for a verry clean low emmisions nox or what ever crap they test for.

No e-check here in Ohio where Im at so i dono what they test for.

Looks like the tranny fire from hell. Are those cars required to have onboard extinguishing systems? The kind where you pull the lever and the agent dumps, or are they stuck with having an extinguisher in the car that you can never get to fast enough?

Im not into the drag scene but I must admit i have to respect that car, if going to only go in straightline, might was well be blistering fast, hehe. Unfortunate about the fire.

that's ridiculous! 7.66 at 186mph on drag radials.

too bad he's using a progessive timer to get the power to the ground.

he ran one race at vegas, but he's not legal with that boost retard box thing he's running (the thing that allowed him to run 7.66 on radials)

He is running a

MSBC-1 Description: The MSBC-1 has been designed to be a flexible electronic waste gate control solution for the drag race markets. The MSBC-1 has the multi stage and control flexibility to produce repeatable, controlled boost , it also incorporates a timer function to allow time-based boost control.

I dont see why it would be any diff Then a manual Boost controler Unless those arnt allowed either.

Either way Lots of the Radial guys dont run this kinda thing and run low et's like rick.

i don't know a huge amount about turbo motors. but i do know that having a boost controller is a huge advantage over the competition. the drag radial class was designed five years ago as an entry level class where people could get a taste of heads up racing without spending too much money....well that time has come and gone and simple people like my father and myself will never get an opportunity to race in these class...

whoopdy frkn' doo man, he made a fast car, but the car isn't legal for any of the PSCA NSCA NMRA OSCA PRO or any other drag radial classes. except for this thing in orlando. to me, he just built the car to see how fast you could take stock suspension and drag radials. but with unlimited engine rules.

kinda like Mike Moran did last year.

it was mentioned earlier, but i love the framing added in the engine compartment. I'm guessing the car has a full tube frame front to back that's integrated with the unibody. I love when form and function are in complete harmony :-)
