factory red look orange??

i just had my car repainted from maaco, ive yet to post pics but i told them i dont want the red to be orange and so originally i was thinking of porsche red to be safe. so i told them if you can paint it the same color code so it comes out right. 89 pontiac firebird formula 350. well i got it back the other day and in the sun it looks ok but a little orangy and at night though and in the shade the car transforms to looking orangy...like fricken chevy crap *** orange. what is this about?? is this what the color was stock?? and does maaco mix their own paint when u ask for a certain color code or what. does anyone know what happened? it came out great though its just the color so im pissed because im afraid if i can get them to repaint it it will be a fast crap job????

I painted my car with the GM 81 Bright red, sometimes it looks orange (in sunglight or at night under certain lights) and others it looks real dark.

Orange-

And red

Mine is painted the same color. I have noticed one thing, WHen I wash my girl, I stare at it real long (to see where i am cleaning) and after looking away, then back at the car, it is orange looking.

Weird, but whatev, I get so many compliments on how bright the red is. Good choice on color......its my favorite.

I always thought the factory red looked too orangey. In fact I talked to the painter about it. He said that Yellow is the first color to fade. Hense red cars getting a bluer red over time. I got him to mix my red in a bluer cast. Like the paint did after it aged 10 years... I like it much better.

Stock color in 89...

Now with new paint in bright sunlight!

I don't think it's a GM thing, I mean, the "brighter" you want the red the more orange it's gonna look.

well sounds like you did absolutely zero research on the paint and didn't tell them an exact code so the fact it's red at all should be a blessing.

next time be specific. that's like going to a restaurant and saying i want a burger and getting pissed when it comes back with bacon.
