brand new bowtie grill

I want to order a new bowtie grill for my car, and I found www.classicindustries.com has it cheapest. the only problem is in their catalogue the grill doesn't look glossy; kind of flat black. Is it just the pic? or did some 91-92 grills come in flat black?

(i know Hawks is only a few bucks more but the shipping is much higher)

I got my through a GM Dealer Too....not sure why some are semi-gloss...and some are gloss. If you ordered the one your looking at..and you wanted it shiney...you could always spray a coat of gloss clear on it. I didn't care whether mine was semi-gloss or gloss though.

Actually GM Parts Direct has it the cheapest. Even though they rape you on shipping, it still comes in cheaper than what most places will charge you just for the grille alone. (mine was about $13 to ship)

It's part # 10139545, $30.46 at www.gmpartsdirect.com.

BTW, mine was shiny.

I got mine from Classic Industries in June and it came in very shiney. The problem I had was I actually didn't want it as shiney as it arrived. Oh well, I'm sure it will dull over time.....

They are supposed to be semi-gloss. For some reason, they are remade today in high gloss, which is not correct.

Will that '91-'92 grill bolt in an '85 without any modifications? I was under the impression that they attach differently.

Ahh, yea, I was curious cause I've been considering putting fog lights on mine. If I do it, I want to go with the factory lights and switch so that it appears completely original.

Post us some pics when you get your grill done.

not to be a jerk but...
Call? Ask if the 91-92 Z28 grill is shiney.. if they say it is very shiney and it isn't, then u can just send it back, at their expense (just make sure u argue it)

Hi

How do you install it. Do you have to take out the fog lights?

Thanks, Dora

Nope you dont have to take out the foglights. To install just take out the 6 or so screws holding the old one in and then put the new one in

you could always spray a coat of satin clear on it.....if you don't want it to be glossy. I think I may end up doing that to mine. So....the question I'm confused about: Were the 91-92 Z28 Grills Gloss or Satin From Factory??

Answer:

ALL Grills, IROC-Z, Z28, RS, early Z28, were SEMI-GLOSS brand new like headlight pockets, louvers, and all other trim besides T-Top moldings and the hatch connectors which were gloss. They are reproduced today by GM incorrectly in high gloss and if you want a new piece you have no choice unless you buy a used grill and re-do it yourself.

Dumb question, but if I was to get the one from GMPartsDirect (or anywhere for that matter) would it come with the actually fog lights? Or are we just talking plastic?

I just sprayed mine with a Satin Clear Coat and it looks alot bettr than the glossy finish. The glossy finish kind of made it look a little cheap

This is the route I took 4 years ago or so. Mine too was glossy. I like it and think the semi gloss would dull down the looks to much.
