So.. is this a good buy?

So I have been looking really hard for a nice set of ZR1 wheels and tires for my 1992 Camaro. I found a guy on a local classified website that lives about 15 minutes from me. He has a replica set of wheels and tires that he is trying to sell.

What would you guys pay for these?

Description
17x9 1/2 for the front & 17x11 for the back.BFG 315x35x17 drag radials and Kumho 275x40x17.There are maybe 300 miles on them.$1300.00 invested.Asking $1050.00 I bought the rims from a company on e-bay out of Sarasota, Fl. Can't remember there name. They are ZR-1 replica rims."

I actually was going to offer him $900, but I didn't know if that was too much for replicas or not.

850 -950 , just remeber the price of tires. they will beexpensive if you had to buy them and wheels. Also are you ready to do some hammering or have yuor tire stick out your wheel well.

That was going to be my next question to you. I have done some searching and reading on this topic but I am still looking for a little more detail.

What is the process and how much work is involved in making the wheel wells house these wheels and tires?

P.S. - Sorry the pics are broken, my server is down for repair today. They should be up by tonight at some point.

Well, I just got off the phone with the owner.

I offered him $850 for the set and we settled at $900. He's even holding them until springtime for me so that I don't have to worry about them right this minute.

I'm a happy boy.

Hey, I'm just curious to know if you looked on e-bay to maybe find out where this guy bought these from and what they are going for on e-bay.

I couldn't find any currently for sale with the 11 inch rear but I remember them for about $850, I have been contemplating buying these for a while which is the only reason why I asked you the question.

Yeah, I did look around on ebay for a week or so but there are a few different people selling them. They seem to be going for anywhere between $850 and $1500 plus shipping and handling.

If I haden't found this guy, ebay would have been where I got the wheels and tires from. Like I said before, the rears have brand new drag radials on them and because he lives so close, I obviously don't have to pay shipping. Also, the set that I found doesn't have that old corvette center cap emblem in the middle. I was looking for a set with the red bow-ties to match my car.

Keep your eyes open on ebay because occasionally you can find a really good deal on ZR1's.

Got my rims for 300+shipping.. But i was extremely lucky. You just need to figure out how much the tires are worth to u and such. and they ARE extremely expensive when you go to replace. www.afswheels.com is the company who made my rims.. they charge $1000.. and that is retail for just the rims (remember, ebay is not retail) if you got your rims and tires for 800-900, then i would think u got a pretty good deal.
Go to tirerack.com and check out the prices on the tires and figure it all out.. I personally wouldn't pay more than 400 for ZR-1 rims (replica or stock).
Also, ask if he will inclue the special lugnuts and the special socket used to install them, since he wont be needing any of that... its always worth a shot. Good luck!

EDIT!!:: Sorry, i skipped that last couple of posts, didn't notice u said u bought them.. $900 isn't too shabby at all, good buy!

After seeing LS1Blown's setup as well as your find last week, I got sick of being left out . I saw the pics you took of your wheels, congrats!

How much work do you think it's going to be to keep the 17x11's from rubbing in the back?

to tell you the truth, im not even positive on that.. I will find out when i have the money for tires and spacers (spacers costing about $300), which im getting from www.Skulte.com. After i have it all fitted so the back tires aren't past the fender lip, then i will worry about pounding (if i can even mount them before pounding.. ) You have to remember what offset you have and what width of tire you have too.. If i get my tires done before you do, i'll post about it

Cool, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll post.

I am going to be looking for a rear end out of a 4th gen anyway, so if I can get my hands on one, I shouldn't need spacers in the back. I should only need two for the front tires.

I'm 99% sure that the tires will mount without pounding anything, but I doubt that it will look right when the car is lowered back to the ground.
