Swirlmarks???
Swirlmarks???
hey guys, i just got my car painted by my uncle, he did a good job overall, except there are a few things im kinda upset about. The main one is this. He told me not to wax the car because giving it a few weeks for all the chemicals to bleed out is better, if you wax it it traps those chemicals in and can actually dull it out. However he said the clear would hold up just fine without wax....Well i washed it today and it didnt hold up just fine. It created swirl marks in the paint...small and hard to notice unless looking for it, however it dulls the appearance. Its not so glossy anymore. He said he still needed to do some final buffing this weekend. My question is this...buffing should get out those swirl marks correct? Any way to protect that clear without wax or should i just wax it? God i hope those marks come out...i will be so pissed if the paint stays like that. Thanks guys.
The swirls should come out with no problem. Do not wax the car for at least a month! After the paint has cured, you can't wax it enough. Paint shops often leave swirls even after they're done buffing, but since he's related, he should take care of you. Did the swirls come from the shop or from you washing it? If they came from you washing it, you'd better throw away whatever you were washing with.

swirl marks are almost always visable after buffing unless the body shop hand rubs the car with hand glaze, but many don't do that because a lot of hand glazes have wax in them. After your 30 days is up, hand glaze the whole car a couple times, then wax it with a cleaner wax like Eagle 1 Wet Look. After that, use a non abrasive polish.

Jim, So does that mean that the swirl marks are ok until i wax? When i use a non abrasive polish should it get rid of those marks? The car looks great other then those marks....Their not extremely bad, but i notice and it makes it lose its shine a little bit. Its a beautiful metallic maroon with pearl white racing stripes, and i want it to look the best it can.
when ever you are allowed to wax it and it has minimal swirl marks in the paint, I would recommend using Meguiar's mirror glaze in the tan bottle. Use #9 first its a swirl remover and than follow that up with #26 its a yellow protector wax. The stuff isnt cheap, about $12 a bottle but you will be impressed with the results. niether of them are abrasive. I try to do this at least every 2 months(every week if i got the time) and you can barely see a swirl in my 5 year old paint.
good luck

ok cool...what i shouldve said was "will hand glazing, waxing, and polishing get the swirl marks out?" I really hope it does...cause is looks really sweet except for those goddamn swirls...(even though im probably the only one who can see that lol) Thanks for the info guys...you saved me from majorly stressing out about it. lol
You don't need to hand rub it. Your uncle should be able to make that paint perfect. If it's just light swirls, he can use a foam pad offset on the buffer with a light chemical cleaner. It'll be perfect.
