This sounds retarded, but I'm a gear head....I was sleeping this afternoon and had a dream of my thirdgen driving really slow with bass rumbling and my side windows blacked out....I have really dark tint on my rear hatch will I need to match it? Is it legal? Anyone have any problems with the law? Will they scratch rolling the window up and down? (I have NO A/C and I seem to roll my windows up and down a lot)

no it will not scratch as long as its good tint it is illeage in most states but cops really dont get ya much unless ur board i have 5% on my grand prix and got pulled over the other night and just got a warning depends on the cop most wont even bother ya but depends where yer from here in michigan u can only have the top 6 inches tinted

 

It won't scratch from rolling the windows down, unless you have something stuck in there. As for the legality of the tint, it varies from state to state. Some allow certain percentage on the sides, some (like my state for example) do not allow any tint on the front side windows. I have had mine on for over 2 years and have never gotten stopped for it. Your best best is to check with your local PD or DMV to see what your particular state's law is.

 

Most states I believe is 35%.I drive around with my windows down wherever I go anyway so....I want like 5% but can't find anybody to do it.

 

yeah its prooly illegal were you are(and where i am) but unless you give them a good reason to pull you over(ie: excess speeding) they prolly won't trouble you...

i got 5% all around and i was pulled over twice this passed summer for speeding but the cops never mentioned it...i noticed one of them gave it a hard look though...the other guy didn't care at all.....he was the best cop ever...it was 1 am(i am not supposed to be driving after 12(beginners license) and i was going 75mph in a 30mph area, just after fistailing through a stop sign which he saw....it was an industrial area with no cars around and a big straight away with only one car behind me that i didn't think was a cop ....anyway the pulled me over and gave me a warning, didn't mention the tint, or my stright pipe exhaust, ...when he left i actually laughed out loud in the car "OMG!!! i'm not gone to jail!!! w00t!!!"

3 days after i bought my car i was pullin outa work after gettin my check i pulled out on the road and roasted em off lil sideways hit 2nd lil more sideways n took off after i got traction was doin prolyl 65 in 45 n looked up form my tach adn saw a cop pullin outa a drive way ofa busness n he go right behind me n hit the lights he pulled me over n asked me bout 20 questions bout my car mods n stuff which it has none lol took my paperwork i told him i jus got the car and couldent drive a stick well he came back and said well either your nto very good or your verygod at driving this thing stay out the throttle and have a nice day with jkus a warning

i almost crapped myself casue my mom didnt want em to geta "racecar" cause id get tickets lolol

Fair enough, I guess.. I used to do that too, but then I started hanging out with people that always spoke complete, proper sentances online and I guess it just wore off lol.

 

get the tint done , it makes it look better . I love how it looks and its keeps the car a little cooler. If your like me you probably drive with the windows down a lot and then when you park it you roll the windows up .

 

Anyone know a site where I could see the difference between 5% and 35%.. Here I think 30% is the limit.

lol screw the law ..... lol jk but realy i guess im willing to take a chance..... im tinting my windows BLACK front and back along with 6 inch strip across the windshield and tail light black outs....

i got a couple warnings last summer but thats about it..... just dont give them a reason to pull you over.... only goof off when your sure there not around..... lol get a "FUZZ" detecter...:lala:

 

I have a grade above limo on the sides/back and never given any trouble for it. Like suggested before... just keep your windows rolled down. I always have mine down. Rain or shine usually

Sounds like when I got my t-tops stolen in the middle of winter.

 

My black 89 had 5% on the sides and hatch when i bought it from the original owner, along time ago. Its the reason the interior is not faded and in such good shape today. That 5% is downright dangerous at night you have to roll the windows down to see right and left when pulling out....a few times in the winter i just kinda chanced it....lol..But its so dark you cant see in from the outside AT ALL...even up close with your hands shielding your eyes.... It eventually got scratched and was turning purple so i pulled it all off. I never got pulled with it on, and the times i got pulled they never mentioned it. It was a pain to get inspected though...still not sure how i did that !

 

I got pulled over 2 months after i tinted my side windows. Cop said: I know that it looks cool, but thank you for removing it right NOW!
I think it looks cool on black cars only, but driving at night when it rains and make turns...that's a different story

5% side and rear. Can't really see anything at night. Sometimes if there isn't enough lighting you have to have the windows down a little to see the curbs.

 

You don't have your location so I couldn't tell you what your laws are, but you can and should check. Wherever you get your tint done will usually tell you the law and some places wont do it unless you sign a waiver of responsibility. Same idea as proffesionally installed strobe lights and stuff. You are just telling them that you will only use it for shows. Another thing is... if you have a friend that works at a customization shop... keep him. When I got my tickets for tint I went to my friend and he printed me up a receipt saying that I had the tint stripped and I took that to the court clerk and they were dropped. In NY side windows can't be darker than 70%.

yea if u do 5 dont be suprised if u hita curb that u cant even see id suggest putting a brighter bulb in ur bakcup lights

Tinting dark looks cool but I had 5% also on side windows and back windows. It gets old quick when you cant see at night. Or you almost kill your self a few times. Or hanging your head out your window to back up.
