K just got it home tonite....too dark for pics though, but tomorrow is another day! I love the color more each time I see it (still havent seen it during the day though!), and everyone has the same opinion.....WHEELS. Yes I know and they will be taken care of before next spring. Im thinking about the 18" IROCS....yet I dont like how they only go 8" wide....any other suggestions?
As for the hood fitament....well Im a little confused on that one. When it was in primer the hood was snug and perfect...but now that they painted and reassembled it sticks up about an eith of an inch on the drivers side (same with the 5 in spoiler
) It may or may not have to do with the fact that when I bought the car, it had a nice side dent in the drivers side door...suggesting that the frame may have tweaked a bit...Pics tomorrow, I hope they dont disappoint (you or me)
Thanks again everyone, this project was a big step for me (most money Ive spent as Im only 19)...the comments and suggestions help alot

Outstanding choice of color, and I must say I rather like your choice of spoiler. It's a bit subtle and that's part of the charm of it, sort of a RS spoiler on steroids. Great work man.

he forgot to mention he got a hover job too nice color choice... be careful wetsanding the orange peel on a candy color. particularly the picture of the hood closeup looks very bad, hopefully it's just the light. luckily your using that hood so it doesn't make me miss mine.

can never go wrong with candy... lookin good.

I'm a little partial to this color...
Oh... and if the comments get too bad about the hood, feel free to sell it to me. I probably wouldn't have to paint it.
Seriously, I like the Ramair on the 'maros. Adds a little more definition to an otherwise boring looking shape.
Flame away.

It's all about the light you use to take the picture with:
Pretty darn close.

that is a nice color....wanna elaborate a bit on the orange peel though? I know wetsanding helps get it out, but what exactly causes it?

1-Air pressure or the CFM too low.
2-Reducer evaporates too fast (Booth tempreture does not match reducer specifications)
3-painting on top of wet coats.
4-spray gun was not adjusted right.
5-Poor painting technique.
I think there is some more but I forgot
exactly... alot of shotty painters try to cake on the clear to make up for it and wetsand down the imperfections hoping for that perfect reflection.
if you look at your close up on the raII as well you can see how the reflection of the shop lights are real wavy.... that's the easiest way to tell. unfortunately cameras either hide that sort of thing or really bring it out.
candy is extremely hard to paint and get a perfect reflection because of all the layers and the fact that you can't go back over once you start. big reason why the paint is so expensive to have done and why it's hard to find one painted perfect. not only that but wetsanding obviously removes paint... with a tri-stage you only have so much to work with and if you break through the clear your paint is done.
neither a fun job nor lucrative.... many reasons why candy is a pain.

if you look right below the vert on the door you'll see where the paint has some of it's problems... again it could just be a picture as you can never judge paint by a picture since there are so many factors.
if you look at this picture you can see smaller details in the background.... again a reason why it took 7 months and 4 tries for my paint on that car. if you are going to try and judge paint by a picture the best way is to see what's in focus around the car. if the background is in focus more then the images on the paint, chances are the paint is probably in need of some work. not fun but worth the effort in the end... unfortunately pictures don't do paint justice.

awesome, thanks for clearing that up it's alot easier to see. Unfortunatly my car resides in my garage for the winter without a wetsand and buff job yet. The people at this shop got so shady at the end, and I was one day away from a snowstorm that when the paint was done I brought it home. Looking again at some of the pics on my comp I can see in some instances where I notice it...but like you said the camera will either hide it or bring it out...Im sure the angle helps alot as well. Thanks

Looks awesome.:hail: I'm not a fan of the spoiler, but it's nothing that's detracting from the rest of the car. And I love the hood on the car with that color.
I got mine out of the paint shop a month or two ago, and wished that I had gone with the shaved look, but oh well. I'll post pics of mine whenever the wheels are done.

Yeah... my paint job is the suck. Cheap. The color is actually "Candy Apple Red Metallic".
Thanks for noticing.

still a sweet rim imo the helpful and always insightful search button would have led you to that question as i found out about it over a year ago when i too was considering them. the star was a no-no. all billet wheel designs are just cnc properties which can have very slight alterations on their wheels that most companies will do at no additional charge.

But to get the star delete, would you have to get them directly through boyd or would one of the several dealers do it as well. Unfortunatly direct from boyd is outragously expensive, and some other sites such as sportruck.com or superbuytires.com have sets complete with tires for alot less....I guess Ill have to make some calls

I ordered mine through sport truck.com and I have been very pleased although they intern had to then place the order with boyd so Im not sure if I saved any by going through them but for 18x8 and 18x9 combo with falkin z rated tires mounted and balanced with lug nuts to my door it cost a lil over $2600.00

yea you saved some dough....I think direct on boydcoddington.com the rims alone would have cost about 2200-2400....something like that, figure in the price you would pay for tires, lugs and balancing after that and you should feel a lil better. Btw, when I do end up placing the order Im gonna need to pm you about your measurements etc.....btw what size tires are you gonna run?

I just got my rims yesterday, O amn are they sweet I didnt think I would like the star in the middle but o man Im in love!!! I set them on my car last night and wow even primer looks good with those wheels
My front rims are 18x8 with 4.5 bs and 245/40/18 rubber and the backs are 18x9 with 5.0 bs and 275/35/18. I went with what sport truck recommended I told em what I had and what lowering springs and everything I planned on goin with and they gave me those specs, they actually sent me a picture of crazyhawaiians car as a reference saying how good his wheel set up and drop kit looked. I took some pictures last night I have to get them developed and when I get back to school next week Ill get them scanned.
