Routing spark plug wires so they look cool

Not sure where to post this, but it does in a way fall under "appearance".

Does anyone have a pic of ways to route plug wires the best.
I dont want those cheap seperators either that just hang there.

I havent been able to find any seperators I;'ve seen at shows...but I'm looking for some heavy duty ones that attach somehow to the valve covers... Also I'm not sure how they would attach to the covers.

any help or pics would be greatly appreciated

try a search for "wire looms" if you're looking for the seperators. I found some sites for you that have some examples.
Hope this helps

Very important, make sure you get some for centerbolt valve covers. (Which is what you probably have on your '89). Otherwise the A.I.R tubes will be in the way.

I have a special problem, perimeter bolt heads with A.I.R. tubes. I have yet to fine a wire loom that will fit my car.

I like the made for you looms, but I wanted something a little more visible...not so subtle.

They are Russells centerbolt looms. These come in red and blue anodized too.

What kind of wires did you use? Same as the ones you had before that setup? Did you have to change the wires at all to do that? That's how I'd like to do mine. I hate seeing all the wires. I'm trying to get rid of as many as possible.

I think the Made for you looms are perfect for that 100% all business look. I like the Russels because they add a touch flair if you will. I know not everyone is after that look, but that was my logic.

FYI the Russell's were a pain in the **** to install. I have the 8.5 MSD wires and they were a little too thick. I had to hollow out the holes in the black holders. They do say "up to 8mm" so that's not their fault. The black holders were a pain to mount on the aluminum loom pieces too. I'll go into detail if anyone was interested.

...They're worth the effort for the look IMHO, but I was cursing Russell the day I put'em on.

Do you have a part number for Magnecore wires that are long enough to run them that way.

That setup looks exactly like the one I have. I can't remember the brand name but I bought it a loooooong time ago. I think Russell just took the design & made it their own. I do like how it has the cutouts in them though I'll post a pic of mine when I have time.

Yup yup! Stock TBI. I used a hacksaw to get most of the top material off (don't laugh lol!) and finished it off (blend & radius everything) with a dremel. Then smoothed everything out with different grades of sandpaper

Thanks for the compliment!

The Russel peices are nice but if you have to run air tubes, they suck. I took mine back cause the plug wires rode on the air tubes. Anybody else have "looms" for our cars with air and headers? Made for you are ok but looking for other options.

This is how mine are routed. The color is not my favorite but it was what I had available at the time. If im given a set of new taylor wires, im not going to throw em away because I don't like the color.. shiyet! (they were purple when I got the car!)

NECRO POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, this thread is 16 years old.

HOWEVER....since info is info, regardless of age, those looms that KagA152 posted are "Made 4 You" brand looms. Smoothie looms specifically I believe. I had em for several years and they worked well and looked great. Might even still have 'em if you're interested in em.

Do not forget, adjacent wires should CROSS each other, a one point, to prevent "Crossfire".

Re: Routing spark plug wires so they look cool

Plug wires should cross at an approximate 90 degree angle, once, to prevent "crossfire". One cylinder inducing spark into another cylinder. keep that in mind as you make it pretty!

I also really like the Made For You looms from Summit. I use them on my GTA that has headers and A.I.R. tubes. I don't have a picture of it handy, but I do of my convertible. It has manifolds and A.I.R. tubes. I went a slightly different route with it though. Most of the wires are routed against the firewall and down below the manifolds with the exception of the front two on the driver side. Those I routed on top with the MFY looms.

spark plug wires...?!?... "I haven't heard that name in years" !

Just kidding!
With this engine, as well as the old TPI 305, I hated seeing the wires run on top of the valve cover, so I would always buy the "make your own plug wires" and cut them to length after running them under the headers and tucked out of sight. I like to use those billet wire/hose separators too.
