Missed that. Those will look great too. Period correct!

I somehow missed this thread for a long time now myself. Going back looking at some of these sport coupes is pretty cool. This guy here did ALOT of work on this one. This could possibly be a COTM kind of modded out build. Looks Great, but I would like to see the rest of it as it appears to have the Z front bumper....not sure how that looks from a front on or a side view. Sure looks good here though and ALL eyes are on the car in the pic too. Pretty cool!

Re: SportCoupe guys come in!

Ive only been here a year. Has a SC ever won COTM? If one hasn't I just might have to make that my mission with a wicked sport coupe build. I love me some sport coupes!

EDIT: Technically...kinda one has. JohnInRI had a killer green Berlinetta win at least once.

Re: SportCoupe guys come in!

PM sent to Dee100 I really want to see more of that car. Ive seen alot of conversions adding ground effects to a SC, but never the other way round by turning a Z into a SC...lol Awesome!

There are TWO cars from this thread nominated for COTM. They both need a second nomination. Head to the nomination thread please and either second the nomination of one of the cars, or nominate your own. several need seconded!

100% Sport Coupe all the way. (and not worthy of COTM from my understanding...it's a 40 footer for sure)

NICE! How's it coming along? And didn't your car have the fourth gen dash swap or am I thinking of a different car?

Re: SportCoupe guys come in!

yes i had a 4th gen dash swap till this winter, and i put a 3rd gen bird dash in it. the car is about 85% together at this point. it needs a solid weekend's worth of prep before our first race. unfortunately i don't have a full weekend so i'll be taking bites out of it during the evenings till the race.

Re: SportCoupe guys come in!

the one good thing about this was that i am now safe to 8.50, and that is so far away from being a reality, that i shouldn't need more chassis updates for several years, if ever. i do have some other smaller fab projects that i will deal with throughout the season. i'd like to entertain redoing the engine bay next winter. at some point i need to completely strip the paint down to metal and have the car repainted. not sure how hard i'll push for that, lol.

Re: SportCoupe guys come in!

Wow! Didn't even know about this Sport Coupe thread until I accidentally stumbled upon it while perusing the ThirdGen forums.

Going back to review the posts, so, in the meantime here's mine.

One owner (me) purchased in Chatsworth California in January 1983.

I lived about two miles from the Van Nuys GM plant where it was manufactured. It was then shipped to Detroit, then shipped back to California where I found it at a Chevy dealer and after some negotiations, took it home. Bought it for $13,965 (January 1983).

Needs some body work and new paint but, engine has run great since day one - however that clutch...it's the bane of my existence. I'm on clutch number four or five (lost count) and the third Z-bar. Otherwise, love this car. Now I need a replacement pedal assembly.

They'll probably bury me in this thing I've had it so long. It still gets looks though. Just the other day, pulling out of a store parking lot while a guy was pulling in off the road, as he passed by I heard him shout: "NICE CAR!". Put a smile on my face. Other times get a simple thumbs-up from passers-by.

Visiting a local clutch mechanic tomorrow to see what he can do to get my squeaky, creaky, hard to push in and out clutch pedal assembly (mechanical of course, not hydraulic till '84's) to perform better. Long story about purchasing one on here from an unscrupulous seller so, hoping for a better outcome.

Also looking for a:
Clutch Lever / Z-bar /Bell Crank GM PN 14036151
Just to throw in my trunk for the next time I need one.

Here's a view from the rear I just came across:

1983 Camaro Sport Coupe
You can't tell from this angle but because of years of exposure to the sun from where I had been parking in my apartment space, the passenger side door black paint is a bit faded and won't take a shine like the rest of the car. Came with Firestone 721 tires (14") that wore down pretty quickly, finally switched to Eagle Wheels and Good Year Eagle tires (15"), presently wearing B.F. Goodrich T/A Radials (15"). Gene

it takes time for sure! post up the slip details if you don't mind. i would love to analyze it and give pointers based on where the improvements need to happen. (1/4 mile ET is only a very small part of what's going on down the track )

Re: SportCoupe guys come in!

Most of my third gens have been sport coupes, and most of those started as lame v6s, but it is so rare and difficult to make a non gfx car look serious. A cruiser is easy but not worth it. A sleeper is pointless at this point.
We do need cotm winners that are real and representative, not just beauty queen cars, but that will take more than just ending the dominance of the lesser production gfx cars, especially since the gm gfx were just for looks while never adding any downforce. Just useless extra weight at extra cost, unfortunately forced on us if we wanted the best performance parts offered.

Hi killswitch_313,
Car is looking good! If you are interested, check out hubcaps.com they have the correct center caps for your style wheel. They look like 2nd gen sport wheels, are they?
