SS hood on a Vert

I'm just looking to get some thought on having an SS hood on a convertible. I myself dont like the look of a cowl hood on a vert and a stock RS hood is so booring. I do like the Z hood blisters but they dont really stand out. I think i would like the SS hood on my vert but i've seen some cars with it that look stupid ( coupes ). On some cars it looks sweet, just depends on what else you have to go with it.

I have an iroc hood for right now, doesnt do much for me.

I think to make the ss hood look complete the car needs to be lowered and have aftermarket rims. Heres a picture I found of kandied91z's car as a convertible. I also like chevykens Iroc.

well it looks like a real pic to me, ill have to take another look and see if i can spot anything.

cndyapple88. you can get the hood from ebay of straight from acs.com after shipping it will be close to $500 on ebay. all depends what kind of shipping quote they give you. beware tho, some of the hoods i've seen arnt perfectly straight. i just hope the one i get is, i dont want to have to mess with it.

well thats the best photoshop i've ever seen. you even finnished the house. great work.

Kandied91z.... congrats on the cover of GM High Tech. i knew the car looked farmiliar when i saw it at the grocery store, had to buy it. Just a quick question on the hood. In 2 of the pics in the mag, you can see where the hood isnt lined up with the ends of the front nose, the hood sits a little high, Did you have to do any major work to the hood to get it to fit? I'm jealous, hopefully someday my 91 Vert will look that good. and did you get your hood from asc? In the meantime my 97 SS keeps me happy.

thanks

I had the same problem with the ss hood. I just lowered the nose down some, till the ends where flush with the nose cover. Pain in the butt to do but worth it in the end.

There is a few different sets of bolts that hold the whole nose up. If its to high when the hood is closed you get the high points at the ends like that.

I had a cowl hood on before the ss hood, it was the opposite i had to raise the nose some to get it fit good. It was a brand thats known for the large gap. So i had to lower it for the SS hood to fit right.

AHHH!

seeing the fullsize pic reminded me of some of the details.. yea i did that.

and just FYI, i dont own (or have a copy of) photoshop... thats all MSpaint and Microsoft photo editer (the free thingy with office... useless for anything except blur.. you cant blur in MSpaint)

i think the full, fullsize pic is bigger then what he just posted... because i did alot of that detail work upclose bit by bit.

there are two answers to your question. the hood is not 100$ straight from side to side when looking head on. this could have been fixed with even more hours of labor but i eventually gave up as it took enough to fill the seams and get the gaps right that i was done with it. it is something that is noticeable enough it drives me crazy but only the truly interested care to notice. there is no way to adjust that on the car without re molding the unproperly fit areas. reguardless the picture and angle show the misfit all too well however the gaps are right which is important for shows and how i get away with it.

another way it doesn't fit well is the center height in location to the fender. the hood almost looks like it's ( bowing in some sort of way. this is caused one from the fact it is actually bowed from the factory mold and also the fact that the brackets for the hotchkis strut tower bar are too tall. at the time i hadn't been able to modify new ones. this pushes up on the hood and gives it that effect.

for a fiberglass hood the fit and finish from ascd wasn't bad... i've seen alot worse but it definately took some time to get it to the way i wanted it and i couldn't even get it perfect while keeping time reasonable so it is the way it is.

hope that answered some of your questions/concerns, thanks for the kind words.
