Painted rotors/calipers?
Anybody ever paint their calipers and rotors?
I've got some rust on the inner part of the rotor that the pads don't touch and was thinking of covering it with some high heat spray. anybody that has done this before and that has some tips, it'd be appreciated.

dont paint the rotors. the rotors need to be free of any grease or foreign material. overnight they might get a light coating of surface rust but that will wear off after a few good stops. painting calipers is okay. a lot of people do it. make sure that you get the paint that is special for painting brake parts though.

As for the rotors, I am thinking he is talking about the center part where the lugs are. It should be fine to paint this part just dont get any paint or anything like that on the outer part that the brake pads hit. I will be doing this sometime this spring. The calipers will be red and the center part will probably be black just so you dont see it.
I would think that any kind of sprited driving would burn off any paint rotor might have.
painting calipers though should work as long as it is one of those high temp paints.
as a related question: Is it a crime to paint Z06 calipers black? I was looking for C5 calipers and found Z06 ones cheap, so I had to buy them. But they are bright red and the rest of my car will be completely black.

Think I can just tape them both off and spray? Or should I actually take the rotors and calipers off to do it?
I have some high heat aluminum colored spray I was going to use.
Here's a pic to see what I mean, look at all that brown.

That part is called the hat. A lot of people will sand/paint that area with high-temp paint of your rotors arent zinc-treated. The OEM rotors on my Grand Am were and after 2.5 years, they are still rust free. Anyways, any high-temp paint should work fine if you prep the area first.

Same way youd prep any rusty area. Sand it until its not, and then use a surface cleaner that wont leave a film on the area you want to paint.

Yes it is a crime, as stated in chevrolet's statuate 401.v18k: Z06 calipers shall not be tampered with by means of paint in any other color or variation other than the obnoxious red we have chosen. It has been said, therefore it shall be done
Honestly, I dont think anyone will care much go for it
I used high heat header paint on my rotors worked well never burned off make sure you use low dusting pads or it will get really dirty. I just masked off where the pads hits and painted everywhere else even down in the fins. I had a rusty set before i painted like yours i just masked off where the pads hit and where the bearings go and sandblasted them first. If you dont have a sandblaster sandpaper and go ole elbow grease would work.

VILenin...nothing wrong with painting ur calipers black man...IMO though I think the red would look sweet cuz of the colour contrast. But still ur black C5 will look sick as it already does.
anyways...paint it OUTATIME. My buddy painted his black and it was sweet. Faded in the back and made his rims stand out much more. But like the guys said make sure your using the right paint thats all. Best of luck man and show us some pics once your done.

yeah, there are certain things I would never do to a car or to a car part. I got these calipers and they look extremely sweet, that's why I was afraid to touch them.
But I think bright red will stand out way too much when you are looking at the car from the side and that's the only color on the entire thing.

I painted the hats on my 1LE rotors black with that 1000 degree paint, and cured them in the oven. I've been pretty hard on the brakes over the last 4 mos. and they still look great. No flaking, and no rust!

I painted the stock calippers with high-temp paint and it held up perfectly fine for 3-4 years before I replaced them with Z06s. Also painted the hats on the hats on the new rotors with no problem.
