Why do you need extra clearance? It's the same size.

If you are going to switch from tpi or tbi to card you will definately have to get a cowl hood to make the clearance. I think a 2 1/2 will do but they might only offer 3 or 4 in. for your car depending on where you get it. A 3" will definately work but I went ahead and got the 4" for mine. I figured what the hell lol.

P.S. A carb is good if you know how to keep it tuned but i dont know anybody that does so im going back to fuel inj.

I have a carbed 350 in my 86 TA with a stock hood, I don't see why a Camaro would be any different.

I have a carbed 350 in my former LG4 car.. fits just fine.

305..350...383...400.. all are the same size on the outside.

You could run a 383 with a performer RPM intake and carb and still fit it under the hood.

everyone doesnt have to give people a hard time ...ive been getting some info on people who went to 383's and some of them said they had to go with a cowl hood(as in they had no choice). thanks

A 383 and 350 are the "exact" same block. There are no external size differences between them. Not givin you a hard time, the small block was put into several camaros STOCK with a carborator... There's no clearance problems if you build it right...

The only time you will run into a clearence problem is if you put a tall intake on or to tall of an air cleaner. We have a 350 with a Performer RPM intake and a 14 X 3 K&N with a Moroso aircleaner and it fits under the 82 Z28 hood just fine as a matter of fact I still have enough room to put the nitrous plate inder there. If your friends "had no choice but to go to a cowl hood" it was because they probably used a 4" air filter or a Victor JR. intake or something of this nature.
