how to paint rims?

i really screwed up my rims, and the gold trim on them needs to be redone, i already used aircraft remover on them and got all the clearcoat off. i guess my next step is sanding them down. should i then primer it, then rattle can it, and top it off with a clearcoat?

yes sand it down but don't just use spray paint , try using the hi timp engine paint and then some clear coat.

I used spray paint on mine, and it's held up for over 2 years, though most of that has been sitting, lol.

PPG is a company. they can mix any color known (or unknown maybe) i work at a body shop though, so i have easy access to it. you might want to try calling around paint stores and see once what they can do for you.

I used Professional Grade Rust-O-Leum gloss black on mine, did 8 or 10 very light coats from various angles to get complete coverage. It's held up great so far and it's been over a year on a daily driver...

duplicolor makes a wheel paint that works pretty good. i used it on my brother's trans am, it's held up so far. i have no idea if they have gold, i've seen black, silver, grey, and clear.

Travis,

take a look at this pic of my TPI, its the same paint im going to paint my gold rims with....I used Duplicolor Heat paint, even the clear is Heat paint...Ive used it before and it holds up great...just lightly sand, tape off what you want then paint it, use several coats of gold till you get the shade you want then use several coats of clear.....show some pics when your done, when mine are finished ill post some too.....

The gold is: DE 1604 Universal Gold
The clear is: DE 1636 Clear

Its the engine high heat enamel with ceramic 500 to 1200 degrees
you can get it at : Advance Auto, AutoZone,NAPA or even WalMart.

The gold is so close you cant tell the difference....

from what I've used so far I would say 3 of the Gold and 2 of the Clear, they are 5 bucks a can. Just make sure you paint them on a warm day, I painted my parts outside in the sun and the paint laid down and blended real nice, it also stayed tacky enough so when it came time to clear it, sprayed nice and even (no "zebra" stripes or overspray lines)
