Skip that. Go to your local Hobby shop (or visit www.testors.com) and get transparent black (or translucent black) spray paint. Open up your taillights (or shoot them from the outside if you want to clear coat them) and paint them from the inside with the paint. It doesn't take much to darken it considerably. Total cost is a couple of hours and about $5; and in my honest opinion looks better to boot.

i have thought about that but i would rather use the blackouts also how hard would it be to tint the tail lights and the bird logo in the center?

There is another thread with pictures of the GTS blackouts. They look so sweet. Does anyone have any pics of the stock lights with the black-out spray? I can't decide which way to go.
Also, in the JC Whitney catolog, they have them and they say that they don't have them for certain years, I believe '86 and '87 which are the best looking anyway. Go figure.

i have replyed to the same topic in another forum, cause i just put the GTS blackouts on my black '90 bird (with TA g/fx) and they look sweet. you can check out gts's website at www.gtstyling.com. as for them not fitting the TA i dunno about that, because i am pretty sure the taillights on the TA and firbird are exactly the same because they are interchangable from what i hear. the only thing i though of when i saw that GTS said they weren't for the TA is because the TA tailights are different, you know with the checkered patter and I dunno if that would effect how well they shine through you know what i mean....any way, they do look really nice....good luck, hoped i helped a bit....

just to clarify....The 87 firebird rear blackouts DO fit on Trans Ams but it's not a perfect fit (although it looks perfect) Here's a picture of my '87 TA with a set of '90 firebird blackouts....
Im gonna have to agree with scauffiel here...i just blacked out my 91RS's taillights with the spray, and some clear coat...They look so awesome!!! I think mine look so much better then the $60 blackouts you buy. Especially with the clear coat on top of them. Took me all in all maybe an hour and a half to do it. Minus the waiting time in between, and it only costed me the 6 bucks plus a newspaper and some masking tape. I would totally reccomend the spray to anyone.
