fogged up parking lights
fogged up parking lights
I want to replace my old, dull, fogged up parking lights up in the front bumper. Is there any way to keep the new ones from fogging up? Could I just spray a clearcoat on them? Would that keep them from fogging up?
i think that the fog is on the inside, probably from moisture, classic industries has new ones or if i were u i would get some meguiars clear plastic polishing compound, rub the hell out of them, then dry out the inside real good, and check for leaks or cracks in them and seal them with clear silicone, its amazing how good an old part can look with a little TLC.

There's always a 'bad seal'. They have a vent that allows all of the moisture to get in there. If you plug the vent you may have overheating issues with the bulbs.

This comes up quite a bit... You could have one of two problems... either the lense has condensation inside, or the lens has been beaten by bugs, weather, uv rays etc till the plastic is hazy... Either way the fixes are the same. Pull the lense, they're held in with two 10mm bolts from the back side. Clean the lense inside and out with soap and water. Dry the lense however you can, I used an aircompressor. With the lense dry check it out, if its fine, make sure the drain holes are clear and reinstall. If not break out the plastic polish. I used vary rubbing compounds and polishes with mixed results. I'm convinced the polish didn't matter as much as the repetition... When the surface is smooth follow up with a coat of Zaino plastic polish if you want a nice shine. If it still isn't good enough, save a few bucks and talk to a GM dealer. Replacements are cheap.

Drew has some excellent ideas. Or you can modify them as I have:

Almost three years with these and they're still clear as they were on day one.

Wouldnt the problem recure if the vent is not sealed? And if it is sealed would it cause heating problems? I have taken mine out several times and dried them out, but the moisture wont stay away. I think Ill try sealing one or both and see what happens. The bulbs are less than $2.

Texas, go to ******* site...he shows how he made them on his site. Looks great on your car willie...not sure if those clears, or just some blacked out foglights will look better on my car...still deciding.
I think mine are hazed from bugs and sand hitting them, and probably most of all the sun. I like Willie's idea. If I were to buy a brand new set, does anybody know a way to keep them looking clear?

Hitting em with a plastic polish everytime you detail the car can't hurt.
