Fog light replacement, ideas?
Fog light replacement, ideas?
I need to replace both of my fog lights, one the lens is smashed and the other the metal backing is so rusted out the bulb wont fit nice and tight. All of the salvage lots around have camaro fog lights (that differ from my TA) or also rusty TA lights. MN, figures. The GM dealers want 120.00 for the exact replacements new, which I will pay if it comes down to it, but I am open to and thank any suggestions.

don't go w/ the blazer style "driving lights" that's all I have to say. they aren't even foglights. the light that they emit I'll admit is bright, but it's too intrusive (blinding) and they don't even function as foglights. They emit a wide ray like a headlight and aren't focused like a true (stock) foglight. Personally I'd go w/ a factory replacement. I have a '88 sport coupe and I cut up my grille and stuffed blazer foglights in there. A few months later (and many hi-beam flashes from drivers later) I replaced my chopped up grille w/ a '92 z/28 bowtie grille and I put factory foglights in there.
BTW to properly mount some of those foglights, (such as blazer) you'll have to fabricate your own brackets.
and also... those yellow or blue foglights look cheap. They don't look factory, and personally, I hate them. You can buy them anywhere and put them on any car. Yesterday I saw some on a rusted out cutlass ciera... what is this world coming to!

If you go to Target or Wal mart they sell a fog light kit that works perfectly and only costs @ $25. You may have to modify the brackets alittle but that's about it.

I got mine from walmart, they were only $17 and they work and look kick *** ,they are rectangular and have this yellowish/bluish lens that changes colors at different angles, they are more recessed then the factory ones that stick out too much, they look tight

I'm using the $17 Blazer lights from Wall Mart too. I had the same set on my Cherokee and they work excellent. The problem with the Trans Ams is that the fog lights are so close to the road, that their vertical dispursion over the road is stretched out too far, so no matter what fog lights you have, they will basically be purely ornamental, or good in 15mph or slower situations anyway. My friend has the stock TA fogs on his 86 and they are totally useless, as are the stock fogs on my IROC. Here are the pics of how I mounted the blazer lights. Frankie Rider simply swapped the lens and guts out of the blazer lights and put them right into his stock casings. My stock casings were shot so I didn't have the luxury.

I think I will try some of the target/walmart specials. For around $20.00 and they look close to stock sounds great! Thanks for all of the responses it helps a lot to hear that someone else is satisfied with the product.

(yes I'm kidding
) i dunno, I don't like the way they dispersed light. (The WalMart ones) I have yet to actually adjust the factory ones I bought, they don't really shine a beam BELOW the stock ones (at light) should I make them aim lower maybe?
