Very cool. What tires were you running?
From what I've read he'll need a V6 to keep w/ a C5 round the cones

The only C5 there had Hoosier Slicks on it and it was running 48seconds.
Most cars were in the 50-55 second range with the fastest car running 44.xx in a Formula Ford (small open wheeled car).
I have a blast doing this, so much fun.

I am running Nitto 555RII's on all 4 corners, 275/40/17. These are awesome for road racing and Auto-x.

wow that does look like fun. what kind of suspension mods do you have?

and how do those tires do in drag racing applications?

edit and i think this should be in the autocross section

Sweet vid! I love autocrossing, what class do you run in? I run the Street Prepared class myself. Last year i finished second in my class. And everytime I see a pic of your Formula, it makes me want that hood more and more.

I don't car what times you are running,, that's not the point, for me! I think that look so fun, I'd go until the tires and brakes were gone.
MAN, where in Iowa can a guy have that kind of fun with their car?

I just got to say, your lucky to get the chance to do that!
Car REALLY looks great Too

thanks.
I do it more for the fun of it than to compete against the other cars and get the fastest time. I just look to better my time.
I am stuck in the Street Modified class due to the LS1 rear and brakes, 17" wheels, and Holley StealthRam.

Suspension consists of:
Eibach Sportlines (perform the same as my stock WS6 springs according to Sam Strano)
KYB rear Shocks and Stock Monroes on the front.
Spohn LCA's and relocation brackets
Wonderbar, and I think that is it.

The Nitto's hook great on the street but aren't as good as a Drag Radial since the sidewalls don't flex at all. I'll be taking the car to the drag strip later this year when it cools down a bit.

Just a flowmaster 80 series, stock manifolds, 2.5" I-pipe and a cat. Nothing special.
I do have a set of coated Hooker Shorties with a custom y-pipe that I need to put on, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

That event was held at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach off of Shore Drive.
They have one event at that location a month.

The other local spot is in Pungo at an old airfield, surface is not as good as Little Creek, but it is still fun.
There is an event at Pungo on the 6th and 7th of August.
The 6th is a test and tune auto-x day and the 7th is competition day. They do timing on both days but on the 6th they don't count for the season.

Shoot me a PM sometime, a lot of us go to Jenros in Va Beach on Saturdays, that is the local car hangout in the area, all kinds of cars, from the old old days to the present.

here is a satellite photo of ACU-4, the red is where we set up the auto-x,

Cool, I'm assuming they allow spectators? My Camaro is at home in Chicago, all I have here is my Monte.

Ya, they allow spectators.

Brisk, they probably have a local auto-x sanction in your area.
Just have to start asking around at local car clubs like a Corvette Club. If not, try to start your own.

BTW, Zepher, love the power slides. Almost looks like you could use a smaller rear sway to plant both rears a bit better out of a corner... and on trailing throttle. Are you running the stock WS6 sways???

Ya, I am running the stock WS6 bars.
I think the zexel/torsen posi I have isn't working correctly, or I am just not used to it yet.
When I exit that first hard corner, my inner wheel spins like crazy. I know that the zexel/torsen is a torque mulitplier style posi unit using gears but it seems like it slips too much when I turn and get on the gas hard.
I can smoke both up just fine during straight line acceleration
When and if the rear end goes, I'll look at getting the Zexel Torsen T2R diff since it has pre-load on the gears that I believe eliminates the problem I am having.

Thanks Brad,

Right after posting that, I took a look on Google and found some of those sites you listed.

Do any of you guys in the DM area every go to any of these events? If you do, I'd like to get started in attending some and getting my feet wet!

Leon.

The problem you are expeiriencing is refered to as "inlift" I have a similar problem in my 88 camaro, I just have the stock posi with 2.23 gears and hard out of a corner it just smokes the inner tire. I have been told that this is due to the posi being worn out.

cool car man I want to run road racing myself.

actually it would be from your posi not disengaging right. so when you go around the turn the outer tire should sping faster than the inner tire (this happedns under normal working conditions) but the posi is keeping them locked together so the inside tire is trying, or is spinning, the same speed as the outside tire. thats why its smoking.

This is what Torsen says about the diff and what is pretty much happening to me,

Okay, so tell me how the Torsen differential works in non-technical jargon!

This, by far, is the most commonly asked question. The Torsen differential is simply a torque multiplier that works through the use of friction generated by thrust forces from the internal gearing. It multiplies what torque is available from the wheel that is starting to spin-up or lose traction and sends that available torque, multiplied by the TBR, to the slower turning wheel with the better traction.

What happens when I have a wheel in the air?

As mentioned above, the Torsen differential is a torque multiplier. The Torsen requires some type of resistance or friction in the system to function properly. A wheel in the air provides zero torque or friction on the system and as the Torsen multiplies the available torque, zero, by its TBR, the end result is still zero. In response to this, we developed the Torsen T-2R with pre-load to combat those wheel in the air situations.

Ya, that area is very large, normally we run on an area that is about half of that size.

We normally have 100+ cars but at this event there was maybe 80, most likely due to the chance of rain. Rain held off till the event was finished, started sprinkling on the way home.
