Do I primer these wheels?
Hey im 15 and im restoring my thirdgen. I have some 15x7 firebird wheels off my 89 formula 350. They are discolored, but are pretty smooth.What I need to know is if you have to put primer over aluminum wheels? or do i just paint over what I have? thanks alot these are going to look sweet

Get a powder coating, they look nice and will last longer. Jusy my opinion, good luck and I wish I could help you on your original question. Do a search in here and you will find the answer.

Primer is really only used for any metal that will rust. So, you won't have to use primer on your wheels, Aluminum doesn't

If it were me, I would just scuff the aluminum up with a scuff pad. That is where you really get your product to stick...not with primer. The main purpose for primer is to protect against rust...BUT it will also help with adhesion. But scuffing up the aluminum should be fine.

90% of the FACTORY rims are powdercoated.
I do aluminum 4wheeler frame, etc .never seen a problem yet. I know the guy who does all fords factory rims here local.
