What Exhaust Tips should i get??
Sometime this winter i plan on getting the hooker catback. The one thing i am swaying back and forth on is what type of exhaust tips i should i get. I have narrowed it down to 2, possibly 3 choices. They are:
-Stock style turndowns
-Lt1 Z28 style polished tips
-The regular hooker dual/dual tips.
I just want to know what you guys think will look real good. I love the way the LT1 z28 style tips look, but honestly the only car ive seen where they're lined up perfectly and look good on the car is 18inchboyds car...all others are usually crooked and look like ****. I havent seen too much of the hooker tips on a 3rd gen, and of course i know what the stock style turndowns are like. Any opinions would be greatly appriciated.

I like the stock turn downs but I am almost positive this is effecting the sound that comes out of them... they are not as loud as the straight ones I think.

Personally out of your choices i would go LT1 style, I had some but they were aftermarket not the originals and they were too narrow for my tastes, theres a guy i work with who has a 02 SS with aftermarkets tehy are like 10" wide opposed to 8" i believe was the factory size and he has em center exit and it looks sick, i'll try to get a pic

Turndowns. I hate seeing tips sticking out from the bumper. Unless the bumper is formed around the pipe it looks bad to me.

Actually theres a website i found that sells polished Z28 LT1 Style tips which are alittle bigger than the stock ones. I need to go aftermarket on the LT1 style tips because the real lt1 tips only have an 2 1/4 inlet and to fit the hooker exhaust i need tips with a 2 1/2 inlet.
One problem i have noticed with LT1 style tips, though, is that they look pretty bad from the side. Anyone have an opinions on that??? Ill try to look up 18inchboyds and see how his look from the side..but some that i have seen look stupid from a side angle.

I personally like my turndowns. The back bumpers on these cars don't really compliment big round tips, but the LT1s look okay. In the end it's your decision though.

...of course I realize it's not on the list.
I happen to like LT1/z28 tips, and factory turndowns are cool too, but they gotta be FACTORY.

Here's a pic of my old OE turndowns. I love the way they looked. They're cut to the same angle as the edge of the rear ground effect. IMHO, that's what makes 'em look cool. Mine of course are all BTFU from years of daily driving, but they'd look great in unfinished alum.
If ya look at Cadillacs car, his turndown aren't cut like that. Your car is pretty darn nice Caddy, but I just don't like the tips!
...again, only my opinion.

On my old 91 I had the single outlet 3" flowmaster tucked up in the bumper, looked real slick hidden. I think Tom P's had the same thing but it was a 4 inch tucked up.

The whole thing with my car is that its gonna be like 98% original, and anything that will be modded i want to appear stock. When i EVENTUALLY get an open element, its gonna be the proform black chevrolet open element which will look pretty stock in the stock engine bay. So that is why i am saying either the stock turndowns or 4th gen LT1 tips. Both are almost exclusively camaro style tips. My main concern, as i said, with the lt1's is that they look wierd from the side if they're not tucked up perfectly. Im still pretty undecided about this whole thing.

My turndowns are way behind the bumper (under the car) you can barely see them without getting on the ground. i need new ones bad.

One of the things that im worried about with tips that are anything other than the stock turndowns...is how to get them to tuck up so you cant really see the tailipipes from the side. I have the new Camaro Performers magzine and theres a black iroc in there with lt1 style tips, but from the side you can see the tailipipes and it looks really wierd. Thats my biggest concern about the lt1 style tips -how they'll look for the side. Is there anyway to tuck em up or will they always be visible from the sides???

I stuck with the Hooker tips when I did my catback however I have since trimmed the tailpipes to make them flush with the bumper and painted the tailpipes themselves black with hightemp paint. I like how it looks but now Im thinking of putting angled ones on or maybe seeing if I can angle cut the hookers. I will say that when I trimmed the tailpipes I had the tips off for a day of driving it and it does sound quieter for some reason without the tips on it.

the tips i have look fine from the side, the car is so low that you cant really see them anyway , but even when you look down they dont look funny or anything . Keep it with no tips.

konartist, i want those tips so bad. can you put those right over the turndowns, how much did they cost, and are they available in maybe stainless steel or something, because chrome would look terrible on my car.

Each to his own. I like the sleeper look, so although I have the Hooker catback, I went with the stock tips.

I went with the 4th gen style....most people say that exhaust tips don't really have a tone...but these do for sure

well i thought it would not work mainly because the turndowns...turn down. and point diagonally downwards.

i dont know your gonna be hard pressed to find ones that arnt polished. Your best bet would be to repaint em flat black or something like that.

I've still got the tail pipes from the Hooker set-up. If you're interested, PM me.

can i get the pipes and not the tips? I can just find stock tips that arent shiny that people took off, plus i can weld and have access to a welder, so no problems there. definantly interested in the pipes though.

I painted my stock turn-downs with silver engine paint. They aren't shiny but they look real clean.
