My free car (project)
Well, here it is my 1991 Firebird. It used to be a v6 auto.... the person who gave it to me put in a 350 manual.
He did alot of work and just didnt want it anymore, he had his fun with it and decided that it was better off that someone else took care of it so now I have it. He put on stuff that I dont really care for, but that will change. I see potential in it. How bout you? I will have about $2000 to work with to make it decent, I know I cant even get a nice paint job with 2k but paint is my last concern.
here it is. I am still new to this whole picture posting thing but if you click on the thumbnail it will bring you to a big one.

The person told me that it wasnt in an accident, I dont know why he would lie, it isnt like he was trying to sell me the car
he also said that he threw away all the 91-92 peices for it because he liked how the 82-84 looked better. That is what I meant be he did things i would not have done to it. I plan on finding a 91 front bumper cover. I found a Trans am/ GTA hood and will put that on. As for the taillights, I just sold my set of 91's on here a day before I got this car so I might just keep the 82-84 style and clean them up a bit maybe someone would want to trade, who knows. I will NOT be trying to make it a Trans am like he did. I do not belive in that. More of a sleeper is good for me, I am suprised no one bashed me for all the extra wiring just laying around in the engine compartment. So after finding the right body peices I will paint it the same color it is to save some money and headaches.

1) 91/92 nose
2) 85-90 Trans Am tails (lots of people convert anyway so might as well...I know I want to convert mine)
3) Inexpensive paintjob...after all it's just a free car, so what if it's not excellent. Go with black or white (I guess I may be biased
)
4) New wheels would be nice...maybe later on.
Then she'll be a real looker AND quick too

Nice score
I think the first thing you need to do is go through that wiring. It looks like it has been hacked pretty good in that engine bay. I definately agree with trying to find another 91 nose. Gonna be expensive but worth it. Other than that, its gonna give you plenty of experience in body work.

What do you guys think I should do with the wiring, should I redo it completly or what, I have been told to make a harness but have never made one so am a little hesitant to do so. I cant find one to buy since it would have to be custom made. I was thinking about just leaving it but then there will be problems down the road, just not sure.
JungleMan wouldent it be cheaper to keep it the color it is? that way no door jambs or engine bay... I would probably go white or the color it is. Black IMO is just to hard to keep looking nice it shows every little scratch and imperfection. Again not sure just yet.
And about the wheels. The person who gave me the car gave me an extra set of wheels and tires. (15") What do you guys think about those wheels polished?? I started at one but am at the sanding point so that is slowing me down.
Things I have done since I bought it:
Fixed the connection at the started, it was loose.
Fixed a locked caliper.
Valve cover gaskets.
Removed the cheap bubbling tint.
What I plan to do: (hopefully)
Fix hatch pulldown
Fix overheating problem
Fix headlights
Find cheap AC delete box
Clean interior. no rips just dirty.
Redo headliner and sail panels, i have some experience with this.
4th gen centerconsole manual
Steering wheel with out airbags since they most likley dont work anyway
Drivers side window felt
Front bumper and hood
Headers
Paint and body work.

sell it to me for 100 and you made a profit
but seriously, great find. i think that would be a great way to kick off the project. are you going to keep it carb? because if you are not i would buy it off you. good luck.

Sorry, I cant sell it to you it cost me $20 in gas to drive it home so I wouldnet even be making $80 off it lol. and sorry agian yes I am going to keep it carb, the carb and Intake although they dont look like it, has less then 1000 miles on it so I am pretty excited.
I just wonder why he didnt put headers on it in the first place, maybe he ran out of money
BTW I took the valve cover off and saw the number I THINK 8888881 or something around that. is that the head number?? are those any good or should I try and get some new ones.
Thanks for all the opinions
Dennis

White shows imperfections very brightly as well...so be careful with white. Not as bad as black though.
I had those wheels on my Bird and I have always hated them, I personally think almost anything is better looking. Post a pic of the other wheels, if you could...

keep it red, but thats not the kind of red i like that is more of a burgendy? am i correct. GO with real red. STands out and looks nice. And if you do go with black i hope you own a polishing wheel because that will be your best friend

Wow, finding a 91-92 front bumper cover at a reasonable price is pretty hard, but i'm not giving up just yet.
Yes, the red is more of a burgandy then a bright red. Im not really thinking about what color it will be just yet, there are more important things to be done.
I know this isnt the right area for this but does any one have an opinion on what I should do with all the extra wiring in the engine?? Should I just cut it off or redo it. Never done engine wiring.
