Whats the legal limit?

I have 15% on the sides, and 5% on the hatch, it takes a bit of getting used to, but it looks great.

Hey, regarding the legal limit, I believe its 35% for the front, and 20% for the back. Some states have 35% all around.

I have my sides tinted 32%, and my hatch tinted 22%. I think it looks amazing. For the sides, it enables one to see inside from certain angles and in certain lighting (good enough to keep the po-po off your ***), but from the back its very hard to see in unless the lighting is perfect and your very close to the car. I noticed no problems driving at night with this tint, and during the day, you would never even know that the windows were tinted. I am very happy with my choice...

Heres it up to the officers "discretion" Therefore, I thought if he wanted to nail me, he would probably do it with any tint percentage, so I did 5% all the way around. Atleast then I know I actually deserved the ticket

I might be mistaken, but I believe I saw some 2.5% tint at the local Wal-Mart not even a week ago back in their automotive with the rest of the tint.

They do sell it, the only problem is finding someone to install it. When I got mine done, all the shop had was Limo, which is 5%, they didn't carry 2.5%.

Thanks for the compliments too guys

It's not hard to put on tint by yourself or having a friend to help. With some practice you can have it just as good as a shop can do.

thing is, he wants to be able to see perfect at the same time...no one can admit they can see perfectly with 5%, especially at night...hell I have 15% all around and it gets difficult seeing some things at night. I'd say 20% is probably the best bet in terms of both hiding the inside somewhat, and still being able to see outside

They do, its called double application of 5%. When my Grand Am was getting tinted, there was an Escalade in there as well getting double 5%. It looked good, but you couldn't see out of the side windows at all

I used to want the real dark 5% tint. My tastes have changed. Riding in friends cars with 25, 15, 5 and most with 35% I'd be happy with 20% on the back, 35% on the sides. I'm not sure if you can tint the vinyl back window on a vert so I'll probably end up just waiting till I replace the top with one that has a glass rear window and do the 35%/20% combo.

No, you cant. But you can order a new "pre-tinted" plastic window with dark or light tint in it. I called and asked TopsOnline when I was gonna order one.

20 % alll around, no problems seeing at all.. depending on where you live you might have a problem. I live in new york so the streets out here are well light and there is always cars on the road, but out in long island where i work some streets are barelly lit and backing out of the shops driveway is scary.

35% all around. Darkest that is legal in WA.
Also added 5% tint to the T-tops (helps the AC in summer).

It is. Had it re-done at Maaco a couple years back. Not perfect but looks good for a daily driver.

That's just what's legal.

I'm out in bum-town all the time; haven't seen your car yet. Looks good. Had it awhile?

Wait...AC? What are you talking about, it doesn't get hot here in the summer!

I live by Illahee, work in Bothell (didn't move when I left the Navy). The car is parked in Kingston where I catch a vanpool to ride the ferry.

All I wanted was legal tint, and you're right, it normally doesn't get hot enough here for AC, but the 5% up top helps for more than just that.

I've had her since 1997, for my last 2 years with Uncle Sam and the last 6 commuting to Bothell.

I need tint, badly, my car is practically see- through . I already picked out a guy to do it, i'm thinking 35% sides and 25 on the back would be good.

Here's how it looks now with no tint -

i always recommend 5% in the rear hatch, unless your state won't allow that dark in the back. Missouri has a tint law that is 35% in front, and it doesn't matter what's in back

Yeah, I hate the fishbowl look. It's even worse on dark colored cars. Here's mine with 35% all the way around.

nick418 can you post more pics of your car? thats how i want mine

im going to be getting mine done soon. i found a guy that will do it for $100 and ive seen work from him and it has been very good. im thinking about going 15% all the way around. but i already have tint on there and it isnt bad i just want to go darker so he said he will tint over it, is there any cons to that and is it hard to remove the tint? also i have rear defroster you can tint over that with no problems right?

i found one more pic maroon. The rear window looks light tho... For some strange reason. Goodluck on your Iroc

Also: thats my father blow drying the car so no swirls will get on the paint

my state says windows must allow more than 70% of light in in all windows.

tint is amount of light allowed in right? so 35% tint is allowing 35% of light thru?

so does this mean i can only go 70% tint in my state? thats barely any tint at all! and i have seen dark tinted cars around

i think its the opposite. except if you let more than 70% of light in, you would be at a smaller number tint, which would be wrong. i dont know what that means. i think some cars come stock with tint at least 35%.

It was probably the case of: you have a nice, older car which means you put some money into it. You were probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time and was pulled over because the cop profiled you and decided you were probably guilty of something. So...he came up with an excuse to pull you over because they can't pull you over for no reason at all. It's happened to me a LOT! I used to have long hair and was profiled as a druggie quite a lot. I'm far from it. If you're young or have anything above a stock radio, that only complicates matters.

I've been pulled over for outright lies as well: accused of not waering my seatbelt (I ALWAYS do), slightly (like 5%) tinted license plate cover, etc...

It's really clear when they pull you over for nothing and then spend the next 45 minutes looking for something good. If they can't find anything on you, sometimes they'll start looking through the car and asking if everything in there is yours...

Fun stuff, huh. Did they not mention your license plate cover because if that's a law in your state, they DEFINITELY saw it to run your plates. If they said nothing, more than likely you were profiled. If they were actually just upholding the law, they would've mentioned it (if that's a law in your state).

my friends and i got pulled over in his mustang convertible. gt, red, with very subtle flowmasters, 1995. it was for a broken taillight. they searched all 3 of us and the car. nothing at all. there were 5 cop cars, 8 cops, we left with a warning to change the taillight. one of about 7 by the way.

How much difference is there between "standard" 35% and the much more reflective 35% tints ?

1) Do the reflective one attract cops more ?

2) Do the reflective ones look good or bad on a teal Camaro ?

I think reflective looks best on black because of the contrast between the silvery tint and the black body...but I personally think it always looks good -- just a little better on black. As far as attracting cops, it looks like a regional thing. Probably all cops profile in one way or another, but I'm sure it varies from locale to locale.
