87 TA to 90 Chicken Taillights

How much of a wiring nightmare is it to switch taillights. I have found a whole set and I like the amber turn signals. I too need the centerpiece with reflector and cannot find it so I'm looking for a fix. If anyone has had to do this let me know the details.

I did it. Not too bad, just get some 1157 (tail/brake combo) sockets from the junkyard. I found it easier to make a whole new harness from the trunk out. Find the tail marker (brown) and your turn signal wires (use a test light) and your backup and your ground. You will NOT use the original BRAKE wire, you can terminate it back and tape it off. Lay out your wire and get proper spacing. Wire up your grounds, tail markers (dim side) and turn signals (bright side {L/R}) and your backups. Solder and tape up (preferbly add loom too) and test them 1st. It's probably a good time to change ALL your bulbs with new ones too.

Get a heavy duty flasher or the lights will blink too fast.

Under the column there is a harness from the ts switch that needs to be jumpered to the brake light switch(Its only a 6" run) I'm not exactly sure of the color wire but I can look it up for you or you can find it in the Chiltons wireing (Its a wire that doesn't go anywhere) This will power both sides of turn sigs with brake power, and also allow one side to flash while braking.

Sorry!!! I re-read your post and you want to switch the other way!!!! I guess just reverse the process and find the hot BRAKE wire (It should still be there even if the factory didn't use it)

I personally think the amber turns look sh**ty and had many complements when switching them with GTA models. They look perfect w/o light covers. It's like they're "built in"

I can't find the piece that I need and these lenses are perfect and have the center piece. The lenses that I have are a little busted up too.

Mine are exactly like that!!! Wrong center too. I don't really plan on switching it. Can't really tell too much.

but I took it a step further....instead of finding the center piece, I took the liberty of blacking out the big intrusive red reflectors on the bottom of the tailights so it just has a better visual appeal to it. what do yall think? im using admirals car as a example, I just havent got my own pics up of mine yet. oh well, im sure he doesnt mind.
this is before i did it,

now this is after they are blacked out using mspaintbrush. this is just to give you an idea..

Accually that's a pretty good idea. But about the scratches on mine. What do you guys think? Maybe some of that NOVUS plastic scratch stuff. If worked pretty good on my helmet visor. Has anyone successfully cleaned up they're lenses?

Fine cut rubbing (polishing) compound on a foam rotary buffer (NOT WOOL!!!) works pretty good. Just keep it wet while buffin'

I like the black-out refs. Mine's white... For some reason i think it looks better on your car because the black on red. I'll take another look though. I hate driving up the street in my v6cam at night and seeing the wicked glow them reflectors give off though.

I found it used, but ive been looking forever.... The whole back of the car is changing... I got the center piece that matches the tailights, and a TA bumper with the molded in GFX. I didnt use the predator kit behind the wheels, cuz it was ugly, so im gonna keep the predator sides, and use TA bumpers the the GFX.
