Ok, so ive been looking into gettin a new set of wheels for FOREVER. Im kinda sittin on the fence however on which direction i want to go. Ive always loved the look of 18's. But, i know that a bigger wheel means more weight and less power. So anyone know of anything that is light and large?

 

Well the first thing that came to mind when you said "light" was the EVO wheel made for 93-02's that can be found on Hawks Third Gen Parts:EVO Wheel Link You would of course have to use spacers. Take a look at the wheel selection on Hawks, they got just about everything.

 

how much do those baby's wiegh?

I have 18" eagle alloy 077's, polished aluminum, and they are a really light wheel....there is hardly anything too them..

 

One of the keys to picking out a wheel to have forever is to get a wheel that you like for the reasons you like. If you get the wheels that everybody else like and they talk you into buying because they like them, then what will you do when the trends and fads change? You will have to buy more wheels!

Having said all that, I like the EVOs, but I don't care for them on a third gen, If I had two grand for wheels and tires I would go with the Ronal R15s they are the best looking wheel ever for the third gen!

 

I heard fiske wheels are really light....but outragous in price

 

The 18" zo6s that I bought are lighter than my 15" steel american racing rims that I use for rollers.

 

bogarts are large and light... but they arnt for the street...

(when i opened this thread, i thought you would be talking about racing rims....)



personally, id get whatever you like for the street, and then a second set for the strip.

 

a guy in my Fbody club has a set of Fikse wheels on his T/A they were $3,200 WITHOUT tires...super light weight though and really cool design..

 

all i can say is that my 17" ROH snypers are def lighter then my 16" cragars...then again the cragars are steel wheels vs the ROH being aluminum. I dunno how ROH holds up to many other brands for 17"+ wheels. Id be curious to find out.

 

The CCW wheels are very light. Kinda look like GTAs but you can get them in 18s.

 

how much money are you looking to spend?

almost all of the racing wheel manufactures, make really light wheels. Someone like Forgeline or BBS or CCW or Simmons. Should be able to sell you a really light wheel, its just a matter of money.

FWIW, the C5 wagon wheel sytle, are actualy really light. you could get 4 rear 18.9.5 wheels.

 

well i really didnt want to spend over 1.5k on rims, but what ive been looking at doenst come that cheap. The car is a streeter.. but i love to abuse it .

Ha, yea I found that out after I looked at a set of those HotRods (those were my first choice btw... they make ur car look effin sweet..)

If i was going to go with a small dia wheel, id probably go with somethin like the pro-stars. Would anyone know just baout how much lighter those are (15") in comparison to say the hotrods? Cause if the wieght really isnt that much less.. im just goin with 18's in alum.

 

Also, I take it that if i stick to polished alum they will be lighter than chrome.. correct?

 

polished is way lighter than chrome...comparing aluminum and steel, its a bit obvious. Just go with an aluminum wheel that you like, they are all around the same weight because they are made of the same aluminum. The small difference in weight between the design is minimal for street use...

Its not too hard. I got 2 18x9.5s & 2 18x10.5s zo6's, 4 hoosier r3s04 drag radials, and 4 hoosier r3s03 drs for $1,900. Granted both sets of hoosiers are discontinued and I got a killer deal on them but still it is doable.

 

how can you say it's not too hard when you only listed one set of rims that are considered light and are 18"? I say it's difficult because once you get above 17" the selection for light and afforable wheels is very small

 

I agree, but it is still very doable. I just stuck to ebay, found a guy with his own wheel shop, gave him a call, and he custom ordered me a set. It just takes some work on the buyers part to find the deals. nothing is going to pop up right in front of you and say "buy me!"

 

well in the case of ebay, they do ....I hear what you're saying though, and thats a pretty cool thing that you got a set custom ordered off there ....how heavy are they?

 

I just weighed them at 20lbs for the 18x10.5 and my old american racing rims were 27lbs (15x10). the 285/35/18 hoosiers (S3r04) weigh 22lbs each.

 

Speaking of Am Racing rims, would anyone know approx how much a set of 18s for the TT2's would weigh?
