strip or not to strip...i guess thats the question

alright, i have 3 18" aluminum rims that need repolishing...i had a bunch of fleet farm (kinda like a home depot) gift certificates to use up so i spent them today. I went and looked for tripoli and white rouge like you guys said, but they didn't have it. so i bought a bunch of Mother's Wheel and Mag Polish and a mother's buffing ball. I used some of it to clean up a couple spokes, and it worked awesome. But I also have a thing of aircraft stripper.

So should I go ahead and still strip the clear coat off like planned, and then repolish them? or just leave the clear on there, and polish them from there?

I wasn't sure on what to do because i couldn't get the stuff you guys told me to get...

If there is a clear coat on the wheels, then the Mother's polish shouldn't work. It's for bare metal only. What kind of wheels are they, and what kind of finish do they have? You may want to strip the clear and redo it.

if they're already chrome the mothers is all you need, i don't know if the aircraft remover would hurt anything but i don't think it would help any. i think that is for polishing stock-like wheels.

yea i used the stripper on one of the wheels, took off the dirt, but i didn't see anything that resembled clear coat so they must not have any on them...i just went and head and started polishing..

here's the progress so far...

Well there's nothing to strip off, so the stripper won't do much. A good degreaser would be fine. Also, the Mother's Billet Polish is better.
