Hood Blister, Have some issues !!!

Getting ready to paint my hood blister, I've decided to go black for now if I don't like it I'll repaint them red. The question is shiny black , semi gloss, or flat black. Also for those of you who have installed a set can you give me any "Tips". I'm sure water will get under them do I need to seal them with something? Any advice would be appreciated.

IMO... Gloss Black

I would not seal them. Just use the correct speed nuts that have a neoprene seal that seats against the underside of the hood and prevents water from entering the engine compartment.

IMO, Red, if not Red, Gloss black

Use the correct speed nuts with the neoprene seals.

Make sure to paint the bare metal of the holes you are going to drill

Prevents water from getting in engine compartment? The blisters are fake, how can water come through? Or are you like... opening the blister area underneath? *confused*

Those are the blisters that hawks sells that bolt onto a stock hood. (not the original style blisters)

and just to throw some input in, gloss black or body color. cant go wrong, both will look great.

I have some of those ones from Hawks also. I just got done drilling the holes and pre-fitting them onto the hood. What I did is get some cardboard and pressed the bolts down through it, then took a razor blade and cut around the blisters to make a nice template (I then marked them with LH and RH because the bolts they shoved in there were not symmetrical). I then took my hood off and turned it upside down. You may know this, but just in case, underneath the insulation you can see the frame is the same as the Z-28/IROC hoods so you have a nice little guide for placement. Drill the holes a little bit oversized so you can make adjustments. I am not completely done so I have not figured out how I am going to seal them yet, so I can't help you there. But one thing I can tell you is to strip that primer off, it is junk. I washed my car after I bolted them up, and that primer started flaking off with just the water hose. Good thing I didn't paint them first. Hope that helps.

jimmyj2000...I am about to undertake this exact project. I have laid awake at night wondering how I was going to do all the measuring so as to not screw up a perfectly good hood. Your idea sounds great, I now look forward to tackling this task. Thanks for sharing !

I love this site...

Re: Hood Blister, Have some issues !!!

It all depends on what style your going 4. I'd do it a gloss black. And if your drilling holes in the hood for the blisters, apply some touch up paint around the drill holes to prevent rust.

If you haven't installed them yet, check out this thread. I put up a quick 'how i did mine' in here and it might be helpful for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
