17" Replica IROC wheels?

Can someone post some good clear pictures of the 17" wheels that look very similar to the stock 16" 85-87 IROC wheels. Where can these wheels be purchased from?...i noticed that they look a little too much like chrome....has anyone repainted the 17" to look like the stock 16" wheels?...i think they would look much better, where can i get a set! Thanks. (does anyone have wheels painted like the "AFTER" picture that are 17"...?)

chrome, yes, but you can have that stipped off if you have enough interest

I bought a set of Chrome 17X8's for $640.00 shipped for my sons '91 RS several months back from OE Performance out of California. When they arrived 3 of the 4 were damaged along the outer rim. I called OEP and informed them of the damage within 30 mins. of UPS delivery and even sent pics. of the damage. I had to return the wheels for them to access the damage before they would ship replacements. The new ones came in and look great. I was afraid they would be to bling bling, but I think they look really good. The wheel looks good, but the customer relations suck. I constantly had to call, they would never return a call as promised. But, I guess it was worth the aggravation because I think the wheels look great.

I'm having a buddy that owns a graphics business make me some tomato red outlined bow ties with black backgorund. We are going to lay vinyl strips in the spokes to give it a more factory appearance and see how that looks. I don't want to remove or mar the chrome. I can post some pics. of the wheel as it came if you like.

I'm a dealer for Oasis Wheels, who makes IROC replicas in 16" through 24". I'm working with them right now to develop a paint scheme that matches the stock paint scheme. The result will be a stock looking wheel, but the "bare" spots will be polished for a little extra luster.

These should offer a significantly more "stock" look than chromed or fully polished IROC wheels that are currently available.

NICE!, Thanks for the info...thats what I'm looking for...I love the look of the 85-87 16" IROC wheels, I just wish they were offerer in a slightly bigger size (17" or 18")...The "After" picture wheels above is very sharp looking, and it would be great if i could get same exact look with a 17" wheel...I suppose i could look into those chrome ones and have them stripped and made to look more original, but I'll hold back for a while and see what else there is to offer for that type of wheel.

When I refinished my stock IROC wheels, I went with a darker gray than the stock paint, and like you, I prefer that appearance. If I get a set of larger IROC wheels for my car, it will be with the darker paint as well.

I'm going to call them back on Friday to see if they have had enough time to get me a price yet. Masking and painting wheels isn't rocket science, so neither should getting me a price to do it.

IMO, I think anything larger than 17"s tends to make the car look like a "Hot Wheel Car"

I think OE Performance Wheel offers them in polished aluminum also. I could be wrong though.

I think you're right...bigger than 17 would make it look weird...17 X 8 and 17 X 9.5 would sure be nice options

Most any dealer that carries the chrome wheels can also get you polished versions for slightly less money...just gotta ask.

Thanks, I like that style...I'd have to get them "De-Chromed" however and painted to look more like the stock color scheme...but thats the type I like.

I would have to disagree:

Them be 18's. But they are only 8' wide. 18x10 would be perfect.

I already did. Because these are 1-piece cast wheels, that would require a whole new casting, which isn't cheap. If I could go back to them with a large number of guys who are comitted to buying a set, it may help, but without that, I don't think I'll change their minds.

At least Oasis offers the 18" wheel in an 8.5" width, which is a little better than the standard 8" that other manufacturers offer.

That's Oasis, the manufacturer that I'm working with.

well, maybe someone could try to get a list of names of people together that would be interested in ordering them...perhaps we could use a long timeframe (early next year or a little later to actually place an order) so that we'd have enough time to save up for the money, and so that we can establich the exact wheel that we'de be looking into, and the price, ect.
But i would definitely be interested...

Hey Mr. IROC-Z...is that your car in the picture?...could you post some more pics (side view) of the car. Maybe some that are close up and some that are further back...thanks

My site is down currently, but here are some from Cardomain.
I do have a bunch of high resolution pics that will be on my new site soon.

Hmmmmm...well, they do look really nice...IMHO, i think they still might be just a bit too big for my tastes, but i like the style. I'd really like to see a 17" one on a camaro (a 17" that looks like the one shown in Mr. IROC-Z's picture or the picture at the very top of the post, but not the chromed out pic) Its strage, becasue sicne your car is balck, when you glance at it, it looks like you really noice the wheels and not the tires at all because there's such a contract difference between the silver and black. It does look sharp...i like it better than any other aftermarket style.

That is exactly the reason I tell people to stay away from CHROME rims!
There is no depth perception in the rim...it just looks boring in my taste.

The paint helps to add curvature and body to the rim. You are able to trully appreciate the beauty of the rims..the lines, the curves...just like a beautiful woman.

Anyway, I ordered my rims polished, but I re-polished them and had them painted.
Thanks,
Tommy

Thats it!!!...I wasn't able to articulate my reasoning as well as you did. But i agree 100%. The Paint on the center on the Arm/Spoke gives it depth perception and contrast.

id definitly be interested in a set of 17x8 polished IROCs with the accents grey, that would be perfect.

I agree that painted Irocs look 1000 times better than chrome. Chrome is nice, but not on Irocs.

I think I have EVERY pic of Mr. IrocZ's car that he's got online. I LOVE THAT CAR!!! I had often thought of doing 17 or 18 inch irocs with an OE paint scheme. I think he was the first to do it though! NICE!

....Jim, I'd be interested in that painted/polished price too. Is gold paint available?

I've been on the phone with Oasis every friday for the last month. I don't know if they're just too busy to deal with me, or just too stupid, but every time I talk to them, I have to re-explain what I want, which confuses them all over again. Every time they tell me "you're a body shop, why can't you just paint them?" and every time I have to remind them that if I have to pay to have them shipped to me, then pay to ship them to the customer, the cost will be astronomical, so I need them to paint them and drop ship. They're starting to get the point, but still haven't come up with a price for me.

I told him on friday that I've got enough people interested that I'd order 10 or more sets at once, so it would be worth their time to do it.

I'll report back if I ever get anywhere with them. If I don't get somewhere soon, I'm going to start contacting other companies that make the IROC repop wheels.

Thanks for the update Jim. Did you happen to send them pictures (such as the ones shown in this thread) to explain what your (we're) looking for?

Yeah, I sent them a photoshopped pic of their own wheel with the areas I want painted highlighted in red. I also sent a pic of my stock wheel as a reference.

[QUOTE=Crusin' 1980's]Can someone post some good clear pictures of the 17" wheels that look very similar to the stock 16" 85-87 IROC wheels.

Sorry my pics aren't the best i haven't taken any lately but here is my 3gen with a set of 85 Irocs that had the clear stripped and polished and repainted gloss black i think it looks sick and brings the car together...lemme know what you think.

Very Nice, I definitely think they're the best stock looking 3rd gen wheels. The black paint is a nice touch that gives it some nice contracts and depth.

The guys at Oasis got back to me yesterday.

The 17" and 18" painted wheels are a go, provided I buy 10 sets or more. I need to get the paint codes to them so that I can get a final price quote, but otherwise everything else is in order.

I'll be making a post in the group purchase board soon with pricing and ordering information.

I would consider selling my wheels for a set of 17's. Whats the widest size in 17's? What would they weigh? What would they cost?

17s are 8" wide, 18s are 8.5" wide. They're supposed to get me the weights when they get the pricing for me.

these are on hawks thirdgen in 16X8, 17X8 and 18X8
i have chrome irocs on mine and im pretty happy with them. however i wanted to go 18"s in the back but i had to buy them as a set. MR.IROC-Z's car looks awesome with the wheels done like he did them. but idk i kinda like the chrome better with my color the grey would look great on a black car or silver car but idk about my maroon color.

Well, here's the pricing:

17" painted are going to be $300 per wheel.
18" painted will be $345 per wheel.

Painting added quite an expense to the price because of the amount of masking involved.

I made a post on the GP forum with all the information. Hopefully we'll get enough guys. We'll see.

eh..too narrow and not nearly light enough to swap wheels. Looks like they'll sell though.

Alright guys, lets see some pics of the IROC wheels on your cars...It'll be a few years before i buy my set of wheels...I'm just wondering which size i want to go with...either the stock IROC 16s or replica 17s painted like stock...

OK, so I have spent a couple hours scouring for the rims I want. It seems like there are no polished rims to be found, so it looks like if we want to do it ourself we will have to get chrome and strip them. The cheapest place I have found online is http://www.performanceplustire.com/p...903#prodAnchor They are $180/rim. This seems really cheap compared to everywhere else I have found them, but the picture of it is the same as other sites.

Here is a better/bigger picture: http://www.pdkwheels.com/pdk_wheel_i...oc_1129_lg.jpg

There is another kind that look the same, but there is no brand given. These can be found here: http://www.finishlinewheels.com/spec...+18%22+Chrome/

Both of these rims looks a lot alike, but different than the Oasis wheels. The part inside the lip of the rim looks thinner, and the lines do not look rounded, but maybe it isn't the pictures doing them justice on the website.

Does anyone happen to know about what dechroming the rims would cost?

To pay to have them de-cromed and then painted like stock might cost you just as much as buying the replica wheels from Oasis already finished. I wish more companies/websites offered replica IROC painted wheels instead of chrome, but it just doesn't appear that they're as prevelant. I would save up and just go with Oasis...its a lot of dough, but if you want the look, its costly. I'm thinking about going with with 16" IROCs or 17" IROCS...maybe someone can provide more pictures of there 17" Replica Painted wheels...
