you can pretty much get whatever you want for however much you want... you just have to wait till there is one up for sale. I waited 5 months and finally found an '88gta in really good condition with rebuilt 350tpi and new tranny and lots more. And I paid 2500 for it.

i paid $100 i think, gutted, no rust, couple extra parts. (pic is from the day i bought it)

leftover parts from the sportcoupe and a 355 with a t-5, slapped on some primer and threw in a cage

I've got $2,000 or so in the drivetrain.

IMO it seems like you want something to drive and not to build. So if i were you i would be looking for somethnig in that pricerange such as an IROC or a Z28 with relatively low miles.

This one was 1,000 when I got it, didn't look like this but no real pictures from that time.

This one was $2300 as a roller, 60K on the clock and paint is 2 years old, strightest car I've ever seen.

Just got this one for $650 with 87K on the clock. Needed some work (see my other post) and should have it tomorrow or sat with the new paint

Ah guys I hate to say it but i test drove 2 LT1 formulas this past weekend and i really liked them. My heart is with Thirdgens but if i can find a nice 4th gen i might just go that route. I have alittle bit more money right now (i have 5g's, and my price range is up to about 6-7g's because my dad wants alittle bit of a share in what i get too, haha). I know that i SHOULD be able to find a really nice, clean, original, low mileage third gen for around that, but i swear i'm having a really tough time. They're just not out there even within like 100-200 miles of me. I'll admit that i will occasionaly come across a low mileage, mint thirdgen but they want double what its worth. I have no problem paying close to 7 grand for a 92 Trans Am, or another Heritage, because thats what their worth...but seriously, like i cant spend more than a car is worth because if i pull out of someones driveway after buying one, and i get t-boned, im only going to get what its worth.

any words of wisdom, more pictures of your cars, or just good places to look would be greatly appriciated...

broaden your search.. I looked for quite a while and was telling people I know to look for me, then I gave up. Six months later the owner approached me and asked if I was interested in buying an iroc.. I won't tell you what I paid for it, but I practically stole it for next to nothing. I picked it apart (had some minor problems, needed computer and chip, new maf, and tires) and bought it for a parts car.. turns out I ended up keeping this one and selling my other car.

Here is a pic of my car within the first week I bought it, absolutly mint and stock with under 50,000 original miles.

I hope this pic isnt too big..... if it is, please let me know..

I paid, $2500 for mine, Had 23,000 miles on rebuilt 350. Then lost the tranny, had that replaced with a Bowtie Overdrives 700r4, I had a Chevrolet Dealer install that.. that was a $2600 bill.. then i just got a paint job, $3600 which I think i got F*** over on.. you can see where he (painter) had stopped and started again.. like in 5 places.. theres a few scrapes from his buffer... He said he'd fix all dings and dents.. pfft ive counted 4. and they are easy to see.. he got paint inside the wheel wells.. Bit of Paint on both fog lights.. didnt paint the rear spoiler.. and thats turning pink in certain area's.. theres so much wrong with it.. and the more i look at it the more Pi$$ed off i get... i paid 3600 bucks for Shi*... Oh' well live and learn i suppose.. Oh yea, the hood doesnt match any other part of the car.. its brighter.. I'll have pics by the weekend.. I have alot of touching up to do before the car show..

and I know ive put over 1000 in misc parts, Shocks, struts, coil, dist. cap& rotor, 8mm plug wires accel,Quaker state Full synthetic motor oil, 14" open air element, Oh theres so much to list.. but theres over 12,000 invested so far..

I paid $3900 for my '92 305 TBI in 2002. The car belonged to a professor at Arizona State Univ.
When I got it, the car had 143K miles, motor and trans had 40K miles, all new paint job, and new radiator (All were done by GM dealer with receipts). He was the first owner. I drove it back to Michigan with no problem.

The 305 TBI may not be a stellar performer, but this car is as reliable as a Toyota Camry, never left me stranded (okay, once, fuel pump died). Currently the motor and trans have 93K miles. Everything is bone stock except for the Flowmaster 50-series muffler and the Z-28 fascia look. Will install 3.70 9-bolt rear end by the end of this month.

Hey, good idea to start this post!

$3,000 about 2 years ago Best 1985 Z-28 I’ve ever seen maybe because it was a FL car and the guy was like 100 years old who bought it from 123,000 miles on it put about 6,000 in the drive train because I wanted to not because it needed it. Next few months 91/92 GFX and a new paint job not sure if I should go with a pearl white or Artic white and lose the gold trim?

I payed $1,500 last summer. Car had a strong running 355, but a few problems. The paint was pretty good, except for the hood and driver's side fender, they were both vandelised. They had paint thinner thrown on them. I ended up replacing the hood with a *similiar* one I found about an hour away from me for free. It also came with stock 15x7 wheels. It came with a few other things like a Holley carb, but it had the choke tower machined off, so I wasn't interested in it. I ended up selling my carb for the same price that I bought a new edlelbrock 600 for (really wish I would have gone with a MS Holley though). Other then that the only differenced in the pics are the steering wheel and the shift ****. Other then that I got the car this way. I think I scored a pretty good deal.

Yes, the hood is a different red, but it looked better then the vandelised hood.

Interior shot, fire extinguisher for safety.

Another interior shot.

Underhood shot- 355 SBC

Another underhood shot.

Blurry, but oh well.

*** end

Wheel/tire I guess

Bought mine new in '91. Sticker was $17,321 amd I financed $13,321 after trade in. I've probably paid for it twice since then with various mods over the past 15 years.

HAHAHAHA welcome to the 3rd gen owners association....i go through this every day...the insurance wont give us jack for our cars, but the people that sell them want so much. This is why i avoid driving my car as much as possible because every time you drive it there is a chance of some stupid *** or some drunk nailing you...then ur out like 2-3 grand cause the insurance company will short you

good luck with your search....if u dont have a daily driver, maybe you should work on getting that...like some beater car for cheap then keep saving for a 3rd gen (or 4th, whatever u want)

Currently needs an engine, so it's parked in my yard.

Heres my Formula, bought it new in March '89. The sticker was 14,500, I got for 13,000.

These pics were taken last summer, sold the car about a week later for parts.

The body had rotted so badly I could no longer get a sticker on it.

Not sure how I feel about threads like this...

It's kinda weird knowing what we paid for our cars but I'll play.

I paid $2800 3 years ago. Redid a lot of things on it and will be finishing this week when the new top gets installed. All told I've probably got around 6K in it.

Lastly, I don't care what you say about the 305 TBI... it's the most reliable engine I've ever had. No leaks, drips, smoke, or anything. It starts every morning and performs exactly like I expect (low expectations).

Paid 1000 bucks back in '99. It wouldn't pass smog so the people were just going to give it to the state and get 1000 bucks for it. I've put a lot of money into it and hardly shows, probably because all the money is under the hood and floor pan. The paint job I did myself so that probably cost about 700 bucks.

3 days after I bought it, bone stock Z28.

haha, I've been waiting for a chance to show off my fugly beast.

Paid $1300 for a car that looked like this: (june /04 I think)
exterior pic
except it had the knight rider wheels, and no tint on the rear window... oh, and bubbling paint ALL over, I added those patches of black primer The car also *barely* ran. Non-cc carb, nothing plugged in because nothing worked. Non working speedo/odo, showing 100,000 miles. This picture was taken about 2 weeks ago, so its looks haven't changed much since I bought it.

Spent about $6000 this winter, all drivetrain / suspension stuff. Now it looks like this:

i bought my RS for $3500 with 116k on the clock, NOTHING done to it aftermarket wise and good paint on it....

And i got my 93 Z this January, it was completely stock, never been wrecked, and almost perfect paint, for $4250, oh yeah and neither of my cars had (or do have) rust on them when i purchased them, benifits from living in North Carolina

Did you buy it with the Blown LS1 in it? Was the car in that condition too? If so then I'd say you got a killer deal.

Paid 1100 for her a few months ago, body is in nice shape, no real rust to speak of. Paint is a cheapo econo job that leaves something to be desired but its my daily driver. It needed a few things and the interior was a mess. It has turned out to be a nice car especially for the cash!

92 RS, 305 TBI...Everything works in the car.

Got mine Jan '02, $700, 126k. I've prolly only put about 1000 into it. As you can see, it's still most definitely a work in progress. And yes, I know i need to trim back the exhaust...one of these days

Paid $950 with 103k on the clock in Oct. of 2005. Its got the mighty 2.8 V6. After the title was signed over to me, I did a burnout at the end of the guys driveway and took off. Also $100 for the bumper (had a little run in with an Infiniti in Jan.). Will have a 350 in spring of next year.
