anyone have an opinion on earl scheib?

I am getting my car repainted soon and I have done almost all of the prep work, they look pretty good frome what I have seen (at least better than maaco) and the price is right. I would get the pro 3 package. Does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks

Don't do it unless you do all your prep work and masking yourself. The paint they use is bad quality and also has a tendency to chip and peel. Then when you want to get it repainted, and the body guys see's the paint chipping and peeling easy, he is going to charge you more, because he will have to remove all of the earl schieb paint to maintain the integrity of his paint.

my girlfriend got the paint from schieb just this summer.. lasted a long time.. starting to peel off now and everything.. that's what you get for 80 bucks eh.. also make sure you do it the same color your car is now because they did a red one teal, and uhh the whole underside of the car was red still.. looked REALLY bad that you could tell they didn't work much on it

My friend had a paint job from Earl Scheib. It started to bubble up after about a week. Earl Scheib redid the job, and it did it again after another week. After that, they gave up and went somewhere else.

I had my 87 Trans Am painted at Scheib about a year ago and I have mixed feelings about the job.
If your car is a daily driver, then by all means, let Scheib paint it... It’s going to get scratched or bumped by some soccer-moms door anyway. If your car is more for show, then go somewhere else.

I must admit that my paint looks pretty damn sweet. It still has a nice deep red color and no problems what so ever with cracking, peeling or fading. In fact, I got a 6-year warranty on the paint! (fading and/or cracking) When I got it done they had a 50% off special on their top of the line paint job, so I ended up paying less than $400.

However, there are some things I’m not particularly happy with. They did over-spray several times. 1 or 2 times on the weatherstripping, once on the black/front part of the headlight, once on the passenger side window, missed some spots on the bottom part of the spoiler/wing, nothing on the inside/top part or underneath the ground effects.... The list goes on.

If you want it to last a long time (well, 6-year warranty is pretty sweet for a budget paint job, no? , look great, and have the money to spend, then go with a quality, 2-3 week, $2-3,000 paint job.
If you just want it to look better than your average 10-15 year old F-Body, but you don’t want to have to test new diet- or sex-enhancing drugs in order to be able to afford the paint job, then go with Scheib.

Just remember to bring up EVERYTHING you want to get fixed and/or painted. If you have a dead horsefly on your bumper when you get there, make sure you tell them to take it off before they start the paint job.

They are bith pretty low end paint jobs but there is no way I would go with Earl Scheib. About 5 years ago I had 3 cars painted by Maaco. Got the Best job they offered, (base coat clear coat) and it came out pretty decent.

Earl Scheib is good to use when you are getting ready to sell a car. All the used car lots around here use them. Makes the car look real good from a distance (driving by the lot), but when you get up close and really start to look.......Maaco does a better job.
2 cents worth.

Thanks for the replies. I do want my car to look as good as I can get it, I'm glad I asked about this here because I wasn't even thinking of going anywhere else, I guess I'll shop around at a few local body shops.
