Possible '88 GTA buy

Ok my buddy is looking for a 3rdgen and we found this '88-'89 GTA 305/5spd car. It has 241,xxx kms, ttop, 4wheel disc brakes, slight rusting on a-pillars but other than that it seems like it's worth the coin. Although, the owner is asking $4500 for the car, I doubt it's worth that amount. It's totally stock as well. I have a few pics here and wondered what you guys thought this car would be worth or what you would pay. Fenders both look mint, along with the floors. The only problem areas I saw we're the a-pillars and spoiler. I opened the hood and saw that everthing was in order but I don't know for sure yet. The ttops didnt seem to be leaking and the floor in the back seat seemed to be fine, no dampness. The suspension seemed solid. All around this car is in good working order and still looks nice but I doubt it's worth the $4500 the guy is asking. Give me you're thoughts after looking at the pics.

Depends if you guys plan on doing a lot of work to the car. You're going to need to tackle the drivetrain and the body, the whole car needs to be painted, and if it were me that would mean I'd strip it then paint it. all the pannels are good anyway. Lot of miles on the engine, clean it up, tune up, clean it out, and assume you'll need new gaskets sooner than later, along with some of the other usuals. Prolly 2-2.3k at the most, though. other than ttops n leather options don't matter much. 1800 would be a fair price.

That door looks to be re-painted. Or a replaced door from another white TA?
I've never seen A-Pillars with that much rust.

Are 3rd gens easy to find in Canada? If they are kinda hard to get ahold of, I'd say $2,500.

There is one on my block that looks a lot like that, minus the rust for that price.

The door is actually fine, its my camera and lighting that seems messed up. The worst problem is the apillars though. I was thinking around 2k-2.5k.

$2500 at the most- the rust on the A-pillars looks pretty bad and I can't say I have seen many Third Gens rust so prominently there and not show lots of rust elsewhere. How do the wheel wells look? A 305/5 spd GTA may be something of a "rare" bird, but not worth it in that condition for $4500 (assuming that's $4500 Canadian, not US right?)

Me personally, I would keep looking.

To me that car looks like a POS, to much money and looks like it needs alot of work. I would keep looking, you will find a better car with a better price.

Sweet, yeah thats what I thought. I've talked to the owner and he put $4500 on it to get people to stop coming around, lol. The car will be sold to my friend for $1900. I think thats fair considering the clutch was changed for brand new perf. clutch. The exhaust has been done minus the manifolds and the car is kept in relatively good condition but the past year or so it's been outside and Canada's winters are harsh, especially where he lives. Thanks for the input. I told the guy about this site, the fact that I own an 87 GTA and he started laughing saying I'm the first one that knew what he was talking about. Probably the reason he sold it to my friend. More pics will come once the car is cleaned and what not. Btw, it drives great.
