Bro you probably wont get too many responses to this thread because leaving any car in the primer state is BAD for the metal. good luck on your search!

My friend had a lumina he painted flat black, it wasn't primer, but actual paint. It looked pretty killer for a lumina. I'll see if he can chime in, he's here in the boards.

Ok, here's the deal with the paint, if you do leave it in primer it will chalk over after time. If you do use primer use a really good primer sealer so that it doesnt look like the front fender on my car where the previous owner went cheap . I'm the one with the flat black lumina, I used the cheap stuff from wal mart, I wouldnt suggest it, i just wanted my car to be one color, and didnt want to put much money into a car with over 200K miles on it. I'd say do black primer, then good quality flat black paint and then use a clear with a dulling additive in it. That way its sealed and will look nice for a long time. Thats my

do a search on this site for flat black or DP 90

You should find a few threads.

DP90 is a primer sealer and you will be just fine using it.

the real way to do it or at least the best way. is to do a regular black paint job and there is a place that makes a "flat" clear coat. when you spray the clear over the black paint it gives it a flat look. but most people that want the flat look want it b/c you can primer a car for cheap. the paint job im talking about cost the same as a regular paint job.

we took our 67 camaro to a well known shop here in town and thats what the guy told us to do if we were going to keep it that color for a long time. but we ended up not getting it painted anyway. i would rather primer a car with a good sealer and then sand and respray the primer if it starts looking bad that would be a whole lot cheaper than getting a "flat" paintjob.

If you have no intention of giving the car an actual "color" anytime soon, why not paint it a satin for flat black, instead of primer.

good to hear some advice

well my cars right now is red. i'm picking up 1 green door and 1 gray door, so those needed to primed plus the rest of the car needs to be sanded in spots and taken care of, plus my ss hood is flaking because i didn't know you needed to sand it first for the primer to stick better to the dp90 obviously needs to be sprayed out of a spray gun.? i guess..

Yes you will need a gun. DP90 is a sealer so it is waterproof. I used about a half a gallon.

rust bullet isn't bad stuff i wouldnt paint the car with it but bare interior and underneath along with suspension parts is a good idea. I've got a 99 ls1 rear in my car that is sprayed with it. it's been a year now and no chips even when it was being jacked up and set on jack stands no problem. It was sprayed to the guy i bought it from did his camaro interior and entire underneath with it. I think it would be alot better brushed on.

I shot mine with black primer back on Sept 24th 2005. It's been that away since. I like the look, and I like the fact I don't have to worry about my paint job getting chipped being I live out in the country where gravel/dirt roads are common.

Here's some pics...

Right after I sprayed it, still taped up....

After primer cured and I untaped car....

Here's another one from that same time.....

Here's one from Oct. 2005....

Here's some after I added the cowl hood in Nov. 2005

Here's 3 pictures from a BBQ/get together I went too back in late march of this year (2006)

As you can see be the timed pictures the primer is holding up great.. This is my daily driver car too and I keep it outside year around, not covered or in a shop.

For primer I used rather cheap stuff I picked up at the local mom & pop auto parts store for around $50 for a gal of primer and gal of reduecer.

Here's the info on primer I used......
AutoBody Master
Professional Hi Prime Lacquer Surfacer

Hi prime Hot Rod Black #8404
