Washing THICK dust off my car

My dad called me and told me some bozos were working in the parking garage my GTA is stored in. He says because of whatever they were doing, the dust on my car is so thick, he cant see through the windsheld. I have a few week old paint job on the car.

1.) Is this harmful?

2.) Whats the best way to get it off?

3.) Should I just wait for spring? I dont want to get salt on the car when i take it out.

They should really pay to fix the $120 detailing they messed up.

Thanks!
Bill

Get an air compressor and just spray some air over it to get most of it off, then like the guy above me said, poor buckets of water (with soap) over the car. Then just wash it like normal.

Back to the subject... I'd say your best bet is to really just blast it down thoroughly with a hose with some pressure behind it first... get off the majority of it.... not just a rinse, but really hose it down... after that I'd soap it up good, and make sure you keep rinsing out the sponge before you dump it back into the soapy water... after that, and another good rinse you should be good to go. The dust isn't going to effect the paint, unless it gets rubbed "into" it... if you can blast off the majority w/water first, and take care of the rest with a soft sponge and some sudsy soap, you should be OK...

I wouldnt add water if it is a concrete mix..

Compressed air would be my first choice.

Wow Justin89Formy your an *** hole. Whats everyones problem with Bluezee? I for one think hes doin a damn good job with what hes doin.
Anyway back to the topic. Bill, dont use compressed air to blow the dust off. The air can lift paint, even factory paint. One winter I left my car uncovered in the garage and it got covered in dust, just hit it with plenty of LOW pressure water then wash like normal.

Compressed air mixed with dust is abrasive. Use garden hose pressure to remove as much dirt, etc. as possible, first. Then only use a car wash soap & water to cut the layers. Keep rinsing it and change the soap / water if it becomes dirty. New paint scratches easily so use care.

If I take it for a drive first, to let some of the air blow off, will that be abrasive to the paint?

The suggestion's were to use compressed air or, not to use compressed air to remove the dust. It's your car. Do with it what you want.

Bill, I dont think taking it for a drive first will be very abrasive to the finish. Just like as mentioned use light pressure water to get the bulk of the dust off. Id recommend a new soft mit and a good car wash, I like the gold class. The paint on the front of your car is still very virgin and soft so just be careful. If you havent already, the paint on the front sould be good for a nice waxing now. Also, if you dont already use hand glaze, get some, go over the whole car itll look beautiful. Unfortunatly the glaze doesnt last very long.
