Powdercoating Engine?

Can it be done? Will it stand up to the heat? Thanks.

Well... Yes and maybe. Powdercoat is baked on at 400 degrees, so any part of the engine that reaches that temp will obviously burn off the powdercoating. I'm not sure if the powdercoat approaches a certain temp if it'll "run" or "sag" or something though. Give a local shop a call and ask them what happens to powdercoat at 300 degrees, 350 degrees, etc...

If it were my engine I would just prep it so it is immaculate and spray it with a good quality paint. The powdercoat could melt off when exposed to high heat. Paints can generally withstand lot more

Are you sure paint can withstand more heat than powdercoat? Isnt the Jet-Hot coating a form of powdercoat?

The "Jet-Hot" style of coatings typically contain ceramic which cures at high temps and has no problem with higher temperatures. I bought some rattle can paint for my headers that has ceramic in it for something like $12 a can. Shot my buddy's headers with it and they still look brand friggin new. Good stuff. I wonder if they can put ceramic in powdercoating materials...

Talking about paints and stuff. Anyone try that por-15? Not great for high temps, but chassis parts and parts that rust quick from road spray this stuff works great!!!

I'm still trying to find a way to get it off my hands!

Yeah the JEt Hot is a ceramic type of coating. I prefer to paint instead because of the ease and cost. In my experience powdercoating is more durable but not on an engine block.
