I know they are called "black outs" so does any light come through and how easy are they to install?

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

You'll be fine with them on. At night you can't even tell they're on there. And during the day they look nice, and the light does shine through fine. Atleast the GTS ones do. Depends what state your from and if they're legal in your state, I never got pulled over in Florida or Texas and I drove for almost a year in both states with them on.

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

I got pulled over for having them on and speeding. During the day it is hard to see your brake lights with the covers on. I always took the headlight covers off at night. The cop that pulled me over made me take them off or get a ticket but I am pretty sure they are illegal in Pa all though I also had them on my last iroc and never had a problem. I guess it all may come down to how you are driving and the cops mood on a particular day.

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

Texas DPS law

In fact, the blue car they used for an example on that page, was my wife's car! Parked in their parking lot. In fact, she was the supervisor at DPS, that controlled the inspecion stations in Texas! Imagine that...an illlegal car, parked in the DPS parking lot, that belonged to the supervisor of the section of DPS that controlled inspection stations!

The pic was obviously taken before we had her car repanted the purple w/yellow stripes.

You might have to drill for those. Do you really want to do that?

if anybody decided to look at the pics instead of just assuming, youd realize that he was talking about headlight blackouts.

the original poster was asking about the headlight blackouts. whatever person went off and started talkin about the taillight blackouts and got everyone else off topic should have made sure he read the first posters question.

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

The law regarding the headlight covers varies from state to state. In some, they are illegal, in some, they are legal.

Never used them myself, friends have, and they do diminish you headlights, to some extent. It just depends on how bright is good to you. You can always use clear ones, for the aero effect, but not dimishing the lights effectiveness.

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

Seeing how my town has about 2 cops on duty at one time shouldn't be a problem... This Aero effect or w/e... would it do anything for the car? I'm getting them anyways.

-Peace

I did read the topic starters question. In Pa both are illegal and when I got pulled over I had to take both the headlight and taillight covers off and the person who posted this thread is from Pa. Nothing wrong with giving the guy MORE info then he ask for. So maybe you should stop giving me ****.

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

So they are illegal? Ok well they couldn't say anything about them if they were clear.

Any other things I could buy for like $60 that would be cool?

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

Yes, they are illegal but it seems cops don't make as much of a big deal about them now as they used to. I live right near the state police barracks and had them on my taillights and had cops behind me and expected to be pulled over and wasn't. If I would have been driving like a douche bag then I can imagine he would have thrown the ball of wax at me. Like I said, I think it all depends on the cops mood. My buddy has the blackout for his license plate also and has only gotten stopped once for it, the cop was going the opposite way though and pulled a u turn to stop him for it. You would be fine with the clear covers though.

Re: Can you drive with blackouts?

I have had both the front and the back on my '86. I never really had a problem seeing or with cops. I believe they are illegal in Illinois but as long as light come thru which it does cops here won't bother you. They are more worried about my tinted windows. I think because more of the newer cars have the clear look cops don't car as much. It is a tack on ticket if you get stopped for other things.

Now blackout or the smoked cover over the license plate is another thing. Around here cops don't like those. They want to read your plate.
