What should I do with my multiple personality bird? (have pics)

This is my 1982 Trans Am. It has a bit of an identity crisis currently. Its a stock 82' car with GTA emblems, nose, and ground effects. The original owner, Dr. Frankenstien or whoever did this, didnt do a horrible job though.

I'm planning on returning the car to 82' standards appearance wise after I finish college.

The drivetrain will be the next hurdle. I still can't believe they put THM-200c's in these things.

Should I try to make a GTA out of it or not?

A local guy put trans am parts on his 82 bird. Looks great. Should leave it if it was done very well.

That does look sweet. I'll try to get some pics posted of the side and rear of the car. At least I should probably remove the GTA emblems from the fenders.

Thanks for your opinions everyone,

Re: What should I do with my multiple personality bird? (have pics)

It looks good as it is, and I am obviously partial to GTAs (mostly the 95-90 front end). I do wish I had the time and space for an '82 or '83. To me they have such a clean look. You're a winner either way.

GTA's look alot better than any basemodel, why would you want to revert it back to stock? Especially an 82...

Because it has 82' tailights, and the looks of the earlier birds are starting to grow on me.

Re: What should I do with my multiple personality bird? (have pics)

the early birds are awesome, I love my 84. I'd say go back to original, but I love having ground effects and they weren't around in 82. That's a tough decision. Did he update the dash to a newer one? how about the rear spoiler and bumper?

Re: What should I do with my multiple personality bird? (have pics)

Leave it as is. Even leave the GTA emblems on it, as long as you tell everyone it is a GTA clone.

Nothing wrong with clones, in my book, as long as you acknowledge it is a clone, and not the real thing.

Besides, cheaper to swap the tail lights, if you want, than everything else. Helluva cheaper too!

That 82' looks awesome.
I don't notice the fender vents on my car as much as this pic since the ground effects cover them up a little bit.

I'll see if I can't get more pics of mine up.

i hate early bird haters

pisses me off

you guys want 85 and up or GTA looks then you should just get an 85 and upor GTA then,
they are by far more common anyways

i dont understand it

im glad i have an 82 T/A, and that it is going to always be factory correct in appearance,
and not be a poser later model or other model than it actually is

just as damn bad as the kitt freaks, imho,

sure it may look nice but its not what it was originally and is not what it was meant to be and built to be and only so many were made and one by one they go bye bye seemingly forever but no one seems to realize or care

i hate clones/fakes/posers/wannabes

its nice how ppl get their hands on really nice early birds and then only to do away with the early bird look completely

early birds rule all

i swear theres a conspiracy against these poor things

i dont understand it

but whatever i guess,

if ppl want to one by one do away with these three years of birds then fine i guess, then ill end up with the only one (hopefully more than one eventually) that is factory correct in appearance

and i will be proud of it, as i am and always have been for the one that i have

im just glad that i have one, and i hope to some how find another one or two or three, some day so there will any left that are still factory stock correct

i also feel this way about other vehicles too

many others

i wish i didnt see this thread, hmmm..

good luck

Dude..who is hating on the early birds? Its not like its a butchered 69 GTO or a rare care by any means. Its a thirdgen firebird. Somone wanted an updated front end and gfx on their car. THEIR car... It was done tastefully, the car was not destroyed or permanently altered. Holy hell man... Its still an 82 or whatever bird... No different than putting 4th gen seats in, swapping motors...

Im not saying that you disagreeing is bad...but that rant was alittle too much. Gotta learn how to use CONSTRUCTIVE critism.

To the original poster. I like both styles, and you should go with whatever you like best. If it is a well done conversion, Ide be inclined to leave it. Gonna be some $$ and time involved in gathering parts and getting them painted and fitted etc etc. If you are really into the early look, you might be better off selling the car you have now, and getting an un-altered bird. Probably save yourself some dough and headache in the process.

Just my opinion tho. Still a great looking car!!! Ide like to see some more angles and such if you get time.

Re: What should I do with my multiple personality bird? (have pics)

It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep it looking like a 85-90 if the body parts are good. Its not exactly easy to find body parts that are in perfect shape. For example, I had to buy (3) 85-90 rear bumpers before I found a bumper that wasn't warped.

Its also a possibility that you could have rust or damage underneath those ground effects.

You also won't have foglights(or at least foglights that look stock) with the 82-84 front end.

Just don't put GTA emblems on it.

Get yourself some of those grid style Trans Am tail lights and call it good. This car was done well and who knows why? Maybe it got wrecked and someone actually fixed it instead of junking it...

If you really dig the '82 looks then sell this one and buy an '82. Your car looks great.

Get some overdrive in that thing and then a nice sounding exhaust!!

Nice car!!

You have a serious problem... What's wrong if someone took a 82 and made it look like a GTA? Nothing. As long as it's done right. It's their car they can do what they please.

I think you should leave it the way it is. The ground effects of the GTA make it look alot more aggresive.

It looks fine, just put the correct emblems on it. Then spend the money on performance.
