big block hood vs SS hood

OK, I know this topic has been beaten to death but I am seriously looking at buying a new hood. If I spend the money on getting an SS hood, I want it to be funtional! I have heard that the big block hoods are not functional, do they have a cowl effect? I ask this b/c there seems to be a big spot in the back where you should be able to get the cowl cutouts. Where can I find a funcitonal SS hood? and what do you like better the SS or Big Block?

If you want functional, I would go with the SS hood. They look sweet as well.

I got an SS hood and it looks mean on the thirdgens. The Big Block hood is cowl induction functional. I know because when i was looking for a hood I called and asked about those two in particular.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

I got the big block. It is finctional cowl, but it doesn't come with anthing to collect the air. It just goes over my engine. I wish it was a func. ram air though.

for either I'm sure you can fabricate a pan that will route the air directly to an open element air cleaner (TBI/Carb) thereby making each equally good.
The only problem then is aerodynamics. Because the big block is closed in the front you may have a little more drag. If you're not racing or concerned about gas mileage don't let this be a factor though.
If you don't go with a pan idea then the SS would probably be the best functionally, but I've heard they tend to get vibration at highway speeds because the back is closed, but you can fix that by cutting a hole, or by making the pan.
Personally I'm going with the SS/pan option when I get around to buying one cause I like the look and the open front, beats the hell out of even the dual snorkel assembly I bet.
