Re: how to smoke tailights
well i'm not sure about smoking the lenses but there are covers you can get to black them out. for smoking the lenses directly i don't know how you would do that. maybe paint them with translucent black? or tint? don't know. good luck though and hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Re: how to smoke tailights
there's stuff called VHT Nightshade. If your good with a spray can it'll work out really nice. there's alot of people who have done it do a search for it.

I used VHT Niteshades on the Tail Lights, 3rd Brake Light, Front Side Markers and Front Signals on this 87 Iroc I built for a guy.

I also used it on my Front signals on my Formula

Re: how to smoke tailights
thats what i did...it jus takes a good painters hand to spray it and you have to prep the lights correctly...otherwise...your gonna get stuck with a lot of work to sand it back down....the other question is how dark you wanna go...

Re: how to smoke tailights
well you can warry the darkness with how much black you put in the clear and how many coats of it you actually spray on the lights, no pics of it at night but the running lights during the day are kinda hard to see, but once you hit the brakes you can see it perfectly almost...at night i dont think it should be a issue, i had my cherokee done for almost a year now, never heard any complaints from the po po, and i live in NY where they are absolutelly illegal....
Re: how to smoke tailights
What I did when tinting the lights was shine a flashlight from behind after every coat starting with the 3rd, to get it to where I wanted it, and where I wouldn't get hassled.

Re: how to smoke tailights
I think I like the black/clear mix look better than the VHT. The shine makes all the difference.
What kind of mix ratio did you use with the black/clear?

This is what it took to achieve the checker board effect. All the blue squares are masking tape.It was individually cut to fit the small grid sections(squares).Afterward you just spray your prefered color. As for those C&Cs.These were an aftermarket conversion by Cars & Concepts(C&C).They went out of business yearssss agoooo. They wont fit the GM tops either.C&Cs are about 2 inches shorter.
