fist of all what kind of engine do you have carb tbi tpi it would help a lot. have you tried to wash down your engine and scrubbing it a little or if there is a lot of oil and grease every were you might want to try engine degresser, if still not satisfied try getting new valve covers or some other kind of dress up kit for your engine

engine degreaser, then go and ask someone at Advance Auto Parts for their Engine shine, spray that on when you are done spraying the engine degreaser off the engine with the power sprayer, and while the engine is still wet, soak everthing you see with the engine polish, it works great, it even made my S10s engine look new. it was awesome. and the stuff is like 3.99 a bottle not bad for the results!

have fun and cover your electrical stuff!

I toyed around with cleaning my engine bay by hosing it down but then I got thinking, tell me if I am wrong here. If your 3rd Gen has never had a "cleaning" under the hood and you have driven it in the elements there HAS to be rust some where. By washing it down, wouldnt it just help the rust out and make more of it? I know I was told that if I wanted to put a under coat on my car to protect it from the salt and rain of Rochester NY (where I go to school) I should lift the car up and sand down all the rust and then primer over it becuase if I just get it sprayed the rust will keep growing under it. So basically I would take a wet rag and a bucket of water and get in there and do it the hard way. That way there aint a puddle of water sitting some where or getting deep in a crack....but hey....just my two cents ( Clink....clink....)

Get some engine degreaser and use it. That's basically it. Replace old hoses and wire harness covers.

For about 125 you can spiffy up the engine with some chrome valve covers and open element like I did. It was easy and a vast improvement.
