T-TOP water spots/etching??? HELP!!
Well after recently selling my Corvette, the sports car withdrawl really set in. I had a 91 Z28 before the Vette and really liked that car. A few weeks ago a wholesaler I know tracked down a 92 Z28 (blue) for me with 78k on it in near mint condition. Not a speck of rust, chips, tears, stains, etc. Perfect car even with the window sticker. So I consider myself very lucky and happy. I'd post pics but the weather here in NY resembles Antactica right now...so pics will be posted soon. There is one cosmetic issue with this car though. The T-tops have what appear to be permanant water spots on them. I've tried the vinegar thing and a few other common remedies with no results whatsoever. Hopefully members of this forum can shed some insight on this problem. I've had about 10 Z28's and Trans Am's but none of them ever had this problem. The T-tops were always nice black and shiny. These are dull and frankly look awful. The tops on it do not leak so I'm not too keen on the idea of replacing them but I will if neccessary. Any help or ideas would be beyond greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Top's plastic or glass? I've had good luck with clay bar removal of hard water spots on glass tops.

http://www.eastwood.com carries a product that you can apply to glass to remove scratches. Part #s, 40030 and or 12843. It might be usefull if the glass is damaged in some way by pollution or other air borne nasties? I've used a similar product for light scratch removal, sold by the Snap On guy's. Dont have the product # in front of me.. but it works the same way. A little more agressive than the clay bar.
Good luck

My Acrylic t-tops have water spots and etches that won't go away and what I'm doing is using the stuff they use to darken tailights to restore it.

Go to a paint and body store and pick up some Meguiar's #4 Heavy Cut Cleaner. Put some on a terry cloth towel, wet it just a little with some glass cleaner and have at it. Go over it all again with a light spray of glass cleaner and a clean terry towel. If that doesn't get rid of them they may well be etched in and virtually impossible to eliminate. If you have a DA polisher, or even a rotary, you can use those with the #4 also, just keep the speed on a rotary low and stay away from edges - best to tackle those by hand application.
