Thoughts on chrome tips for tail pipes

I just put on a flowmaster this winter and got 2 new tails for it. I like the way they look but I'm thinking about getting chrome tips. Any1 have any thoughts on that?

I have 3 3/4" chrome echo tips. They are the long style that people generally put on trucks. They look awesome and deepened the sound. The angle isn't great on the pic, but it gives you a idea.

They had em at the muffler shop. Any good muffler shop should have a good selection of tips. The tips were about 20 each I think. My exhaust from the cat back with the flowmaster and tips was $245.

I always liked Chevy's bowtie exhaust tips, you don't see them very often, and they add a little extra somethin to the exterior

Just a thought...the chrome tips that came with my Hooker cat-back are like falling apart. The chrome is just flaking off from the heat. Cheap tips...

Hidden? Hmmm. I really have no clue. I just told them I wanted the pipes to come out straight and not angled up or down.

Some people have mentioned painting the flow with high temp black paint to hide it, but as you pointed out, you dont see it.

Nothing personal to people that have chrome tips but I hate them. Exhaust is supposed to be heard not seen.

Just MY opinion.

Depends. In Hot Rod there was a awesome yellow 70 Torino, that looked killer untill you saw 2 rusty exhaust tips peaking out from underneath the bumper. Ugggg

Based on that pic, I vowed never to have nasty tips on a car.

Tips are cheap, and add a bit of luster to the cars.

I just liked how this looked! The last person to rear-end me, walked away with over 3000 dollars of damage, I needed a new muffler. The tips punched holes through her bumper and radiator. It was an import.
My pic won't post. Ill get it up later.

I was big on the highly visable tips untill I backed into a parking spot and scrapped the crap out of them. I cut the tailpipes off so the damaged tips were not seen. In fact they're so far back that no pipes are seen at all...I got used to it and will not put tips back on, I like the hidden sound. Id rather not show off my back end, anyway. All they need to see is that big Z28 spoiler in front of em gettin smaller...

i am with Chuck. i dont like tips that much, when i get my exhaust done i am gonna get the 4th gen rectangles and paint them black with high temp paint and stuff them almost against the bumper, and see how they look, i just dont like a pair of chrome tips hanging out the back i think it looks bad. thats just me though, i do however like the looks of the hooker cat back, but the tips stick out past the bumper that is crap in my opinion. and i would have that chopped so they were under the bumper.
oh well

The tips with the Hooker exhaust don't have to stick out past the bumper...you can pretty much put them wherever you want. You can see from the pic below that I had mine mounted a couple of inches inside the rear valance.

I personally like chrome tips on older cars, not third gens. I'm yet to see a style on my 89 GTA that doens't scream trailer park trash. Hidden is the best way to go, I've even painted everything with flat black high-heat to conceal it even more.
You can sure hear it though!

I guess it was just the slope that the car was on. The gap is just like the front when it's on a level surface.

Pipes can definately make or break a car. I personally have mixed emotions, some chrome single straightbacks really look killer on third gens others look like poopoo mustang jobs. Beauty is one thing, but power and bellow is another. My dynomax pipes bend down, so i wont put extensions on 'em, i am too lazy, and way too cheap.

I had 3" chrome tips put on in January and it was cool at first but over time I started hating them so yesterday I got muffler turndowns put on. Cant go wrong there. Looks good and sounds VERY deep! I recommend it to anybody.
