I was getting my windows tainted yesterday...and saw a display for 3M Paint Protection Film.....i think its a plastic (???) film that goes over your entire car...and it protects the paint from fading and chipping and all that stuff......the brochure said that new cars come with that stuff....anyone have it put on their thirdgen?? Pros and especially cons?

I saw that in Popular Mechanics, but the product I saw was just like a bra, but that invisable plastic stuff. I would like to know more about it too.

The film is a protectant that covers areas where stones are likely to damage the car, the front of the hood, the front clip, or lower rocker areas. You don't cover the entire car with the stuff! It's not completely invisible, but works like a bug shield on the hood.

Wouldnt another smart place to put be on the doors? I know idiots around here like to bang doors and shopping carts into other peoples doors...pisses me off when I see someone do it....one time i was at the store...in the car waiting...and this guy leaves a cart in the middle of the parking lot...it starts rolling straight towards me...I was like...hmm...i need a new paint job..i'll just let the cart hit me....kick the guys *** ...and then get him to pay for a new paint job...but he went running after it and caught it...it was like 5 feet away from my car.

I got 20% in the back window...and 35% on the sides....it looks great...at first I thought the 35% would be to light (the guy offered me to do 20% all around...but it needed to be in cash, and I was paying with a card) but after seeing it...it looks fine...the back is KINDA hard to see at night...but bareable. I got the premium metalic film, lifetime warranty, and total with taxes came out to $228. The back window was done in 3 pieces by the way...cant tell though.
