yeah its a base coat/clear coat finish with PPG red to match the original. they block sanded my car about 6 times to make sure it was perfect. i have checked over my car and have found only one small imperfection, but i actually didnt find it. a friends dad did. but oh well. it looks good to me and the even painted the antenna door locks and everything.
i have all new from GM:
weatherstripping.
fenders, door handles, antenna base and lock plate, front parking lamp assemblies, fog light assemblies, camaro emblem for the nose, radiator resevoir, and more. i spent over $1000 at GM (but because i get a 10% over cost discount it added up to $1800.00, but dont tell my dad he would kill me)
and the body work is incredible, they straightened the passenger side door, it was dent from the front to back, and it is smooth now. smallest amount of bondo ever, he hammered it straight. and they found that my hood had many many dents, most likely from my ex girlfriend!!
and there were a bunch of door dings i never noticed,
the body guy keeps begging me to put the door gaurds (the ones that run with the door from fender to rear 1/4) because if i get a door ding its all over, the car will look like crap. but i dont think i want them because of how clean the car looks now, and i am gonna be moving and getting a garage of my own here soon, so!!! just have to worry about my rascal nephew now. oh well

RARE-ROC-Z,

Would you mind emailing me a list of the parts you got from GM and what I should expect to pay?

I am interested in the front emblem, window seals and guides, antenna parts, parking lamps etc. I have a convertible so I only need a door kit for the rubber seals.

I would really appreciate it if you could do that. It would save me a lot of time looking up the part numbers.

Thanks.

Get the body side moldings! The painted stock GM moldings compliment the lines of the car and will help prevent door dings. Especially since you went that far with evrything else. Trust me...it won't ruin the look of your car.

Very very nice! When I first saw those wheels when you wanted them Photoshopped on, I didn't like them but they look awesome on the car. I would get the side moldings, cause you'll be pissed as hell if someone door dings your car or if it gets hit with a shopping cart or something. Have you decided whether or not you're putting the IROC door stickers, the bottom stripe, etc. on yet? I think you should put the door stickers and the emblems on, but leave the stripe off, but do whatever you think looks best.

Cars looks great..my opinion on the door guards is if you like the way it looks without them then don't put em on since they wont stop all dings anyway and most SUVs or other vehicles are high enough that they probably miss the door guard anyway

nice...in the primer shot you can really see how straight the body is.I agree with scott ,that the moldings help with the body lines.the 1/4in.ones,not those 1 inch moldings.depends on what you like though. When a door hits your car,and it will.they do help.

Ok guys the grin still hasnt left my face.
and chuck i will get those part #s to you.
and i dont PLAN on any door dings, so i dont want to put those ugly door bump guards back on. i like it the way it is, but with bigger back tires, the ones on now are 195/60/15 way to small, i have a set of 235/60/15 which will be going on 6/20/01 because i dont wanna spend any more money on tires when i have two that will work for now on hand.

the paint and body work ran me just under $4000 but i also got a new Windshield. and i would pay it again any day. the car is soo nice now. i just love driving it. too bad its my daily driver now.
oh well i baby it and i work at the car wash for the car dealer, its always clean.

and thanks for everyone posting. if i missed something let me know.

Very nice looking Door ding guards, I left mine off and was ding free for 9 months. I've gotten 2 door dings from different repair shops a couple months ago grrrrr repainting the car sometime over the summer though. Taking auto body and repair classes sure pays off

Yeah, I just had a lot of paintwork done, along with a new windshield about three weeks ago. It's sooo great not having those little sandpits and stars (the glass used to look speckled). I'll probably go get a new set of wiper blades just so the old ones don't make a grooved pattern in the new glass.

When my other car was repainted, they left the door moldings off, and I rather like it like that. I actually like it either way, but without them it's so much easier to wash and polish, and you're gonna get dings anyway (I don't care what you think, if you drive it at all, it'll start to show it).
Whether you put them on or not, I doubt anyone's gonna say it's an ugly car based on that.

Did you make a decision on the stripes and decals, yet?

yes derek, after admiring your car, i wanted it to look similar, sorry if that makes you mad, but we dont live near each other,
So i am not putting any decals or stripes back on. but i did go and buy all new EMBLEMS for the rockers, the rear bumper and the front end.
but i just dont want them RIGHT NOW. maybe later.

oh yeah derek next summer when i get back from basic and AIT for the army i am getting the SS hood. sorry man. but its soo awesome on your car. i love it.

and did you think that the stall really helped in your ETs because i am thinking of a 2000-2200.

and if i go to my aunts in plymouth IN. i would like to get a hold of you so we can show our cars to each other!! that would be sweet. but i dont know if i am going this summer.

and the door ding guards are staying off. its only a car and if i get enough of them. i will have my insurance company pay for it. especially since i have never had a claim EVER. knock on wood.

anymore questions? or comments!!
thanks everyone

Hehehe , not at all . Yeah if your ever around look me up , Plymouth is like 10 minutes from my house .My Z will be in pieces though , lol . I blew up a month ago , so I just scraped this year and am building for next season .

On the converter stick with 2200-2400 . My 2600 stall acually hurt me bad in 3rd gear with the TPI's mile long runners . ET stayed the same and I lost 2 mph . Thats probably more because of the combo of 2600 stall and 373's though . If you have stock rear gears maybe as high as 2500 will work for ya . Save for Vigilante or Art Carr billet converters , you will not regret it

I've seen this car inperson and it looks just as good, if not better, as it dose in the pics. It wouldnt matter if you had the bump strips on or not you'll just have to be very careful wiht your fresh baby. I think it looks fine without the Iroc stickers on it. Thats helps it become the Rare-Rock.
Very Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that's one hot looking car. Were you at a professional body shop for it, or a friend? If it was a friend, can you ask him what kind of paint gun was used? I'm considering re-painting mine myself... I can do bodywork perfectly, but never tried paint.

And yeah definately get the door moldings. I wasn't going to do it when I painted my car; then I saw a Camaro that was pretty shiny without the door moldings. He had a few nasty dings right along the edge where the moulding would've been. I put black ones on mine; found 'em at Strauss Auto for $15. When the lady rang 'em up at the register, the receipt printed out "Camaro door molding" even though it wasn't written on the package. Guess I picked a winner!

ScottC, I didn't know GM carried the painted moldings! I always thought body shops painted them with normal paint. How much do they run from GM?

Oh, Rare-Roc, there was something I saw a while ago... it was an invention by a guy who claimed his wife parked too close to his classic. It was a magnetic side moulding, very wide (6 inches?), and wouldn't scratch the paint. I have no idea what the name is.. but the idea was to put it on when you park, and take it off when you drive.

Right now the rears are 15x8 , 4.5" bp and the tires are Micky Thompson ET streets 26x10.5 . Going to 15x10 rears with 5.75" bp , and 28x12.5 ET street

If your stayin street tires look at BFG radial T/A's . They are a good tire and there cheap . I can see some 295/50r 15's on the back ...there only $90 a piece . Tread is full 10" and diameter is 26" so your speedo will still be right. A friend of mine has this tire , they are steamrollers

TomP i had my car done at a professional place. but it was on the side.

and i havent planned on putting those moldings back on. but i am really considering it in the last day or so. i got my first rock chip and i realize that the paint will never be perfect again. so why not protect it as much as i can.

and derek. i am running 15x8 with about 5" of BS and they rubbed on my calipers till i put some washers there. i am gonna buy a new set of back wheels and then stuff my 275/50/15s on there. i just dont want them to stick out. i hate that.

and TomP i know what you are talking about. look at most constuction company trucks and they have decals of the companies name on the side of their trucks. those are all magnetic and dont scratch the paint. that is where he got the idea from.

and thanks everyone who likes my car. i work hard keeping it clean, and smooth. i plan on ordering some Zaino soon but i havent had the time to steal my moms credit card lately. and i havent been accepted for my Visa yet. probably because i havent sent it in. but oh well.

I went for two years without body side moldings and got only one dent there and that was from an idiot at school. Don't put the molding on your car, I don't like mine as much with it, just if you can, double park so no stupid person can screw up your awesome ride.

Thanks for replying everyone. i do appreciate it!

i think i am gonna get a set of 16" WELD prostars for the back, since the 15" dont fit well with the 12" rear disks, i had to use spacers to make them not rub. so 16" it will be. hopefully i can get 16x10 that would be nice.
thanks everyone again. and this has to be the best sight on the web!!
