Re: Post Your Daily Driver Project third gens...
my first thirdgen was an 86 Z28 305 5spd. Sold it to attend collage. Felt so lost with out a car to wrench on. A couple of years later started looking for a thirdgen... took me like 6 months to find one that was in good enough shape. Its a 91 GTA L98 bone stock picked it up.
It was my daily driver 6 months of the year, (live in Winnipeg) nice hot summers but cold winters! Paint is about 10 years old ive waxed and hand washed this car from day 1. Otherwise the paint would not look the way it does. 190,000kms motors never been opened up but ive rebuild most of the car. breaks... tranny... lots of little fix it projects. Man these cars are so needy! lol. Theres always something to fix on these cars. But i truely love seeing these cars in such good shape. Where i live theres just not that many thirdgens in good shape.
My car has been keyed dented attempted theft... I pulled it out of storage and my alarm would not work one year picked up a flowmaster cat back kit, stuffed it in my car... that day car was parked at work... GOT JACKED big time. stereo exaust sub amp column smashed. These losers could not even finish the job... they wanted the car but were not able to drive it away. anti theft device nice to have... saved the T/A. Insurance covered all the damage. Everything was replacable.
This was my turning point with it being a daily driver. From that day forward i alway have my beater registered... People like this will take all the fun out of these cars. Now i have a new alarm and dont take my car anywhere shady.
Put on 3,000kms this year and its parked indoors for the winter. SAFE!

my 86 started out as a 305TPI/automatic. Now its a 383/TKO600 combo. Been my spring/summer/fall daily driver for 10 years now. For the last 2 summers I've driven 80miles per day commuting to work in it. The 383 gets 22-23mpg average.
here i am with my race slicks on.

Here is my most recent photos from a few weeks ago.

Does this car look like something i'd put a 'bandaid' on? I think not. The plate is there because the liscense plate looks terrible in the stock location.

Sorry, didnt mean to insult you.And no it doesnt look like something you would put a bandaid on its a very nice car.I just couldnt imagine that would be considered good enough,by the law,For a place to mount the tag.I cant believe thats considered ok or legal is all.You would have to be waaaaaaaayyyyyy out in front to see the air dam and it would still be somewhat obstructed or too far away to accuratly read.I mean why even have a front tag if you can barely see it.Oh,and Everybody needs a bandaid once in a while.

I still haven't decided if I am going to use the stock wheels (the ones on the front) or the old pontiac mags. If I go with the pontiac mags I have to find one more, 3 of them are the same, the 4th one has different back spacing, I didn't notice it when I got them.

Any of the times I've been pulled over the officer gets a chuckle out of the plate location. They say I need to move it up on the nose, but I really don't want to do that. The fact is, I'm displaying a front plate, and it is visible much of the time if you're sitting in another vehicle. I suppose if an officer wanted to be a complete jerk he could cite me. So far the officers have just given me an A for effort and ask me to move it. Its been there for 10 years now...

To redeem myself, here is 3 laps of me going around Nelson Ledges a few weeks ago. I'm going about 70% still getting used to the track. I back out around 120mph down the back stretch. the video is taken buy a guy riding shotgun and doesnt really do justice to what's really going on, but at least you can hear the exhaust!

I guess I can toss my beater into the mix for those of you who haven't seen it, if theres still anybody who hasn't seen it out there
. and I won't be driving it in the snow... I'm done fixing rot on this one! (hope it doesn't come back!)

and heres when I brought it home from school for the first time after I painted it... I have since cleaned all the overspray.

Daily driven, then detailed and taken to shows.
She needs a new coat of paint, though... a deer bounced off the front bumper and made spiderweb city. Luckily not too much damage. The hood's a little wonky, but she still looks good... from 5 feet away... or from the back, which is what most people see anyway.

What kind of wheel / tire combo is that in the back? It looks mean

Custom built 350 with a corvette t56. drive it everyday, and surprisingly I get about the same gas mileage as I did with the 305 and 5 speed tranny.. if I drive it nice. haha
