Re: Japanese induction hood
speak for yourself firbster i'm enjoying my own... want to pony up $1,200 for a one off copy send me a check my "brother".
We've had issues with finding a distributor for the hood which has caused a wrench in the works unfortunately. As soon as we find one to bring costs down considerably things will continue until then it rests on a donar car. Those emailing me from over seas it will not happen just order it from japan.

Where are the finished pics? This could be very helpful for those who may want to actually spend that money for that hood. I'm curious to see how it looks.

Re: Japanese induction hood
I would love to see some pics. I was even considering going through the cost and the logistical nightmare of getting one from Japan. I am very curious to see the finished product. Especially after all this build up. Sheesh!

You'll learn there is a lot of building and hyping up on here. But most of it does get finished, eventually. Just think, if I had started a build thread when I got my car, it would still have yet to have an update, since I've been buying parts waiting to put them all on and been having the car sit. Anyway I'm sure if Kandied91Z said he would, he will get it done.

Man I saw the pictures of the jap camaro today and had just been looking around and saw this. So I hoping he would have one done when I saw the thread, I thought I was gonna be able to get one soon ...
If they were done I would def get one of these instead of the 4in cowl I am getting in the next few weeks.

Kandied has said in other threads he had a finished prototype for something like two years now. How hard is it to get a pic or a friggin update? Kandied's last post said nothing other than he's indignant with ppl being impatient.

Seems like after all this hype that the second you had a protype done you would snap a shot for all to see, and bask in the glory of your completion. For a dude with one of the sickest third gens I have ever seen, this whole hood fiasco has been a little lack luster. Just my two cents. The only effort I have put into this hood is complaining that I haven't seen it yet.

@ RSFreak..this I know.. Just basically stating when Kandied does something..he waits until it is complete.. As I don't believe he wants to be a "Get your hopes up kind of guy" in which he wanted one for himself first..and I am sure once he gets his installed..we will see pictures.. As I know he can not hold back showing his ride off..

Re: Japanese induction hood
In fact, I don't know of any proper method to ship the hood through the post office here, I don't think it would even be accepted for boat shipment at the post office due to the oddball nature of the dimensions, and the post office is always the cheapest my a massive margin.
I suppose you could try to airmail it via FedEx or whoever (only service they do), but Fedex charged me over $200 to ship a lousy boxed up Macbook Air to Canada, so this hood would easily cost over $1000 to ship. Trust me when I say $1000 is a conservative estimate, it probably would be more in the $1500 range.
The other thing is that even if you had a Japan contact, he would need to pay to have the hood shipped to his place first. The license plates on their cars are from Kanagawa prefecture, which means Yokohama, or right outside Tokyo. For example if I were to buy one, it would probably cost me about $300 to ship it to my door just a couple hours away.
And, with today's exchange rate, that hood is about $1800 USD.
It's a nice hood, and I've toyed with the idea of getting it "just because", but it's a substantial amount of cash. You're literally looking at a hood that will run over $4000, if not close to $5000 (US Customs duty too) by the time it's sitting on your car and painted.

Re: Japanese induction hood
FedEx International Freight will do this... i work(d) for fedex.. but i still get my discount.
I also have a friend in the tokyo area willing to go down and pick it up. but yeah the exhange rate right now puts this hood at close to $1,780. If i got it, i wouldnt even paint it, since its CB and my car is black.. shipping is about $800.. but its the duty tax that kills you..
plus.. shipping freight.. its a risk,.. it would need to be in a crate.. screw it..

I like this one, which is why I was asking about custom hoods.

Last page shows "finished" pics. The guy that had it then is Banned, but maybe FYRCHKN could put you in touch with him?

Re: Japanese induction hood
^ that looks pretty good so far.
Any idea how deep the openings on the hood can be, before you hit on something when closing the hood?
What did you use for cutting?

What does the bottom look like? What kind of cutting to the inner bracing did you do to it?

Even though My japanese is rough at best. I'll do my best to find the hood on this japanese website. After a quick run-through I could not find it.
If you go to the site below:

The nippon-jin did some interesting mods to the intake and k-member.

yeah good thing is i didnt hack up a factory hood. luckily enough my buddy who i traded with had an aftermarket hood on this car he bought.

Re: Japanese induction hood
i found 1 pic that had ok visual on detail. im most likely sending my hood to my guy. he said he cant start on the mold unless he has a few guys interested with down payments. doesnt have to be full payments, just enough to pay to labor and materials

Re: Japanese induction hood
he said for individual sales, its around 900 per hood (ballpark figure because he hasnt made the mold yet and doesnt know how long it will take to fabricate one) he said half down and the more members who want it, the shipping will change. this is all from just putting him on the spot last night through several emails. if you go to his website which i posted the link above, just mention "the project-rs hood" (he will know what your talking about) and he can explain in detail what needs to be done and ect..... the more people that want the hood, im sure the price will change because all the work to mold a hood for a few people isnt worth his time (on a business level he needs to get paid for labor on making the mold, ect....)

Gah.. this is my first post in years, and still this thread lives on. I can suspect why Kandied hasn't posted pics. If he's trying to find someone who will make this, then their is money involved, and theirs a design to be built and a design to be stolen.

I may be in on the hood. To be clear, the project-rs hood is a fiberglass rendering of the hood on that japanese camaro, right? Any thoughts on that spoiler they are calling the "3d Racing wing"? Anyone know someone who can make that? Ballpark pricing?
