Japanese induction hood

well i have finally found someone to help me reproduce the hood. If you are not sure of which hood i'm talking about searching would definately help you. those that have been interested in this hood it has taken alot of time finding the right people but it looks like we are finally here. should have some updates and pictures up in the next few weeks. unfortunately because this will not be a mass produced item we are looking at around $900 a hood however if you are interested please contact me and i'll be sure to put you on an update mailing list also.

Count me in.
Will the hood be made from Carbon?

Will there be an option for Fiberglass?

Re: Japanese induction hood

you don't have to do anything with the exception of emailing me if you want updates as i don't come on here much anymore. the site doesn't work the way it use to for me back in the day and it's a major headache.

as for options fiberglass will be the first choice. Carbon can obviously be done but the material is expensive. we will see as i'm still working out the kinks of everything. if it can be affordable or we can find a good market then obviously prices drop.

i want to see these in production as much as the next person so i'll have updates.

Hmm...I was assuming $900 would be for carbon. Kinda expensive for fiberglass?

How far down will the induction part sit? i would be interested but i'm afraid it wont clear the HSR i have which already is touching the stock Iroc hood.

Any way to put a mild rise inthe middle like a 1/2 inch cowl? thats all i need to clear

find someone to make you 10 or 20 and only charge you 300 a piece. not to mention you will want a perfect fit and finish. even ascd and some of the others require work which will cost many 3-400 in labor charges to get them perfect. find someone to make them nice and cheap and we'll go through them. my ascd ss hood cost me $475 plus shipping, i spent another $300 making it perfect before i even painted it and i was lucky as i've seen worse. you get what you pay for and these will not be an exception.

that's a tough question and to be honest one that probably isn't practicle. owners with the hsr unfortunately will have to deal the hand they were dealt with such a high rise plane. we will check the clearance when they are done but because of the reverse cowl and wanting to make the underside look as good as the top it may be difficult. i will let them know though.

Re: Japanese induction hood

you will not see them before christmas if that's what your asking. we won't even get to work on them until we come back from sema which is early november. the ss hood is a good hood and should clear your hsr definately.

Re: Japanese induction hood

When the time comes and you get an idea of dimensions let me know. I am in the market for a new hood this winter so i got time to wait.

that hood is different and being so unique i like it. Everyone has SS or cowl hood and those are my two other choices, mainly for weight reduction and to clear the hsr.

I'd switch to miniram if it meant getting this thing in carbon.

Re: Japanese induction hood

things are in motion which is good, carbon prices are expensive and the way the economy here is in michigan we will just have to see about that option.

This is the hood we started with. From ascd a traditional 3". when there is some actual data to show that's worth mentioning i'll post it. Shooting for final molds in february to start getting things out just in time for spring.

Not just Michigan, all over the world.

I'm no body man, nor have I tried doing this or have seen it tried/done before but the camaro and firebird hoods look similar in shape other than provisional cutouts for the pop-up headlights for the firebird. I'm sure the fiberglass can be cut to fit the firebird though, correct?? I'd love to put one on a autocross/roadrace 91-92' Formula.

The point was someone has to front the money to get things done... it's extremely expensive for what i feel you get in return which is why there are only a handful of companies making hoods for our cars. It took awhile to find a company that saw potential to drop $10,000 into the project.

we don't have access to a mint condition factory correct firebird to be able to take measurements.

I understand what your point is, and i'm surprised a company actually is fronting the money on the hood being how things are. My question was not directed to the company itself if they were going to make it for firebirds as well, that was just a general question to TGO members whether the firebird and camaro hoods are similar in shape or not. If I did purchase it, i'd have to modify it to fit my car which is what I was expecting to have to do.

yeah after seeing that hood again, i forgot how far back that inverse scoop is. thats gonna be right on top of my TB/HSR intake and probly wont fit at all. It depends tho as it looks like it has a mild 1.5-2" raised mid section and then that inverse cowl drops back to the factory level but its hard to tell

yes that is it, can't think of any other japanese induction hoods that are popular here so if that is an issue let me know.

unfortunately it's safe to say a hsr probably will not work with this. obviously measurements will be taken to be sure though.

well considering no one here in the states has true dimensions of the hood all that can be said is it will look identical. no finished pics obviously.

from the japanese company? search to find that answer as it has been posted.

if your asking about the one we are doing then you can get the same price quote from ascd or any other popular hood manufacturer as the size and weight should be similar for your ball park idea.

most can assume it will be an easy $1000 to have this hood on their car initially after shipping and all is said. it's expensive but unfortunately all things are to be first.

as for everyone reading, if you know me then the hood will be spot on or won't be at all. when i have updates we will all have updates. just keep your eye out and we'll get to work.

Those slats on the side, will they be included ? I think the definitely add to the appeal.

Looking at that hood it appears that its like a 1.5-2" cowl hood with the scoop falling back down to stock level. This may fit HSR afterall I really like this hood tho

all you had to do was search, veterans of the site who are primarily posting to other veterans don't like to have to rehash long posts about products from years ago.

simple search of "Japanese hood" would have gave you all the answers, no need to sound ignorant.

If someone is going to duplicate something chances are it would be completely duplicated for the most part. the only thing that would be different would be the underside because we have no idea what the underside looks like 100%.

those vents are off of a 2nd gen by the way. very easy to duplicate and were the first things done.

Re: Japanese induction hood

I go to Japan every year. Does anyone want me to bring one back for them? Why cant we just be content with the options we have now? Everyone wants to be different in some way. If Kandied gets them produced....well then everyone here that replied will all have it and then it will be just like a regular Hawks hood. If you want one that bad, there must be a manufacturer out there already, go pay for it and have it shipped. This way you still have a chance of being "unique" in the U.S.A.

it was price out years ago that the minimum shipping costs was $800 range putting the hood at roughly $1900 us to have it here. 99% of the people here have a hard enough time swallowing $800 for the hood itself. i myself as much as i'd like to be different would rather build it then spend $1900 for it.

if you can do that i would suggest you do it as i'm sure someone would buy it.

as far as i'm aware you can get that hood right now in the usa. i believe last i checked it was $800 range also. a little bit of searching should find that answer for you but there are companies making both fiberglass and carbon fiber of the stock iroc/z28 hood. for the longest time it was only the rs hood.

Re: Japanese induction hood

I was kidding about bringing it back. I have enough crap to do there than to think about shipping a hood back. I like my cars, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. I wish i was rich like Kandied and some others on the board, but if i had the money, i would probably in some Z06 forum. This is a hobby for me, i dont even really drive my car that much. Im just hoping that someday my car could make it Barrett Jackson. Anyways, if i dumped all my money into this hobby, i wouldnt be making that trip to Japan every year as well as many other places i travel for leisure yearly. Im sure the Japanese would love to have me bring to Japan some American stuff...and they definetly have more leisure money than we do. They spend all their money on their cars and hobby stuff because housing is so expensive for them, many choose to be mama's boy live home and spend. Most of us get kicked out at 18. Why dont we start a new poll and see who spent the most money on their Camaro on this board. Im sure some spent $30000 or more to be the baddest of the bad on this board, but remember it's still a Camaro. Unless it is one of those 1LE super low mile or Turbo GTA it's senseless to spend that much because you will probably never get your return on it down the road. All of us one day will wake up and say, it's time for something different. When that day comes, you will be wondering why you spent $1000+ dollars for that unique hood. I hope i dont wake up soon, because i have already spent a lot of money and especially time to locate everything. It will be a sad day when it's time to sell....unless you have one of those rare ones and see it worth more than you paid. With that said let's have everyone sign up for one of these hoods and have so many in order to have Kandied drop the price to existing production hoods. That way it is more sensible to get it while not building up the guilt factor for purchasing so expensive and be "unique".

Re: Japanese induction hood

The hood is available from somewhere in japan. This is not a thread about ordering that hood from japan. No one in the usa that i know of has that hood in stock here to sell.
Right now a custom creation of that hood is in process and if you'd like to get one, stay tuned to this thread and wait til it comes out. Thats what this thread is about
