Mothers Mag and Polish

Can anyone tell me if there is something I can do to get the swirl marks left by the Mothers Mag I put on my wheel and also if anyone has some tips on polishing with a dremel tool, I would appreicate it. I removed the clearcoat but the polish head I used on the wheel was a piece of crap. Good thing I only tried a small area first...

Are they chome wheels. It imposible to remove clear coat with out striping the wheel. the swirl mark maybe from clear coat still being on the wheel, so what happened when you put mothers polish on it is it scatched the clear that wasn't taken off all the way. If they are polished chrome wheels you are using the wrong polish. You need a a chrome wheel polish. Don't use the dremmel it will mess up the wheel, just take you time with a tooth bush an rag and polish them yourself, they will look better the using a dremmel.

I have the aluminum alloy IROC wheels and I put the aircraft remover on them to take the clear coat off. Then I put the polish on there. So do you you recommend using a tooth brush to rub the polish in instead of a dremel tool?

Umm... could we get some more information about your wheels? If they are factory, use the aircraft remover to strip the clear... then start doing some sanding. If you just throw polish on there it's not going to do much. If I had to take a guess, I'd say it wasn't the polish that hurt the wheels, but rather the dremel. Doesn't matter what brush you use on that, many times it spins too fast and can scratch or damage the wheel.

I striped my wheels on my 83 firebird by wetsanding, it took me 4 month to finish them but they came out great. Just use a tooth because if you don't know how to use a dremmel polishing bit you may risk scorching the metal.

When wetsanding always sand with the direction of the cut on the wheel. Lets say you have 5 star wheel you can see in the clear coat that the cut of the wheel is Horizontal, don't sand Vertical it will F up the wheels. Just make sure you keep the area you are sanding wet. If it starts to get Hazy don't worrie it will get worse before it gets better.

i sanded my wheels in a vertical pattern and they look like a mirror now. here is what i did to my wheels

Aircraft paint remover
scrape it off, or what not
150 dry
320dry
400wet
1000wet
1500wet
2000wet
mother wheels polish.
and they look chrome. i can seriously do my hair in the spokes. the center triangles look like *** since i havent had the time to do those and i still have some finishing on some of the wheels,
but for wetsanding. take the sanding paper and a bucket of water, submerge the paper in the water and then bring it to the surface of the wheel and make sure there is water on the wheel surface and sand. i sanding down the spoke and around the outer ring and around the center section, it looks perfect i cant wait to get them ALL done and take some pics. then i will repeat the instruction for what i did.
good luck and make sure you go well into the thousands for sand paper, it will look 1000% better.
