Different GFX between 85-88 ???

My 85 IROC had a SC bumper on it with no ground effect, but has the rest of the GFX

i got a RBC today with the ground effect, and its much wider..

the bumper lines up and all , but the ground effect part is definatly bigger.

did the rear quarter pieces of the GFX change ??? or is their a diff bewettn Z28 ones and SC ones ???

The [edit - '82-'87] sport coupes got no gfx, so the rear bumper cover is narrower at the bottom since it doesn't have to match up with the gfx piece which mounts on the rear quarter panel. Both the sport coupe and Z28/IROC-Z/RS piece should be the same width from the taillight down to where the gfx piece mounts.

The Z28/IROC-Z/RS bumper cover is the same from '85-'90. [edit - the 88 sport coupe bumper covers and gfx are the same as the '85-'90 Z28/IROC-Z/RS ones]. '91-'92 rear covers are the same dimensionally as the earlier Z28/IROC-Z/RS cover, but have a flare along the bottom.

camarochick-

it will work as long as you have the complete set, e.g. front and rear bumper covers, front spoiler, and all the side pieces.

Yes CamaroChick, they will fit if you bought the complete gfx including the front and rear bumpers and the lower front facia. You will need to drill holes in the rear quarters, rocker panels, doors, and fenders to mount the gfx pieces. You will need to use the factory attaching brackets for the gfx, some of which bolt on (quarter panel and fender), and some of which need to be either riveted or spotwelded (the rocker panel brackets). The bumpers are a direct bolt on replacement. My reply above only addressed the specifics of Thirdgenfbody's question, I didn't address anything else since he stated he had an IROC with the rest of the gfx already mounted. It is a little work, but not too bad. I added the gfx to my '86 sport coupe in a weekend back in '89 and have never regretted it.

BTW, if you have the factory foglamps, you can just flip yours upside down and mount your brackets to the bar located above the stock mounting location (you need to drill holes). This saves you the trouble of finding and purchasing IROC brackets. The lamps will sit a little deeper in the grille, but if you look at pictures of my car I think they look a little better that way.

Im lost, why is the ground effect part on the RBC bigger then ??? its an 88 bumper

i wouldnt be surprised if the rear ground effect pieces were changed because the car was rearended and replaced with incorrect parts (not Z28)

If the other bumper you have didn't look exactly like that, then it wasn't an '88 bumper. That is how it should look if you have gfx. The only thing I can think of is that your car may have had '82-'84 gfx installed on it in the rear, they are smaller.

I really need to see some pictures of your car if this doesn't solve your quandry.
