After reading some older posts I came across that somebody on here makes clear headlight covers? I know most people say they fly off but I am interested in the ones where people have them screwed in.

I am also looking for clear ones. Nobody seems to be making them anymore, because all I find are smoked ones. Wade and GTS have been around a long time, but don't make clear ones anymore for some reason.

 

My brother got the smoked ones and he has to take them off when he drives at night. Quite annoying. I was lead to these ones on summitracing which I think I am going to order if nobody really replies to this thread.

i don't have any clue if he still makes them but a guy by the name of pwdbychevy used to make and sell them. do a search with headlight covers and his name you'll find them. maybe send him a pm if you are interested

 

heres mine. (never mind the hood and cowl, i was just taking some progress pics. hoods getting painted soon so dont flame me!) im pretty happy with them and yes it is VERY annoying having to take them off at night. its not terribly annoying, but it does kinda get aggravating. as you can see in my 2nd picture i went ahead and screwed them into the headlight pocket like you mentioned. the green circle is just the little tabs that they come with. the one with the blue circle is just some metal i made so it wouldnt slip out from the bottom. they hold in very well when the hoods on. i just slide the covers on and they hold on nicely.

bought mine on ebay for 10 bucks. somebody had some silver overspray paint on it. took the buffing wheel and some rubbing compound to it and it came out beautifully

 

Your car looks like one nice ride. Cool engine bay. The smoked headlight covers are really cool. Maybe I should just replace my headlights with KC 100 watts to shine through the covers at night. lol I'll take a look at pwdbychevy. Thanks

 

I had the clear ones I got them at auto zone or advance.

 

I have headlight covers too and was thinking about painting them red to match my car. I think it would look like a mix between a TA and camaro.

anything above 45 and they,ll fly right off.. also you have to double sided tape those plastic brackets on..

 

I've got a set that I have never touched (clear and black I believe) mainly because I have seen my hood louvers go "batmobile" on me flying off , yet their were no machine guns under them unfortunately. This is a solution waiting to happen. Something that will successfully keep the clear light covers in place.

 

Just do what I did. Make some brackets and get some 1/4 turn fasteners to hold the covers in place. I've already high-speed tested them at over 160mph(verified by GPS) courtesy of Gandy Bridge here in Tampa I used to sell them but I stopped making them. Here's a couple of pics. The covers are a little scratched but you get the idea.

The original export covers had 3 holes drilled into the leading edge of the headlight bucket. The covers had 3 posts that had a notch in them. They were installed by holding the cover perpendicular to the ground, insert into the drilled holes, tilt back towards the headlights locking the notched posts. The fiberglass headlight frame had 3 sleeves attached to it. The top of the cover had 3 plastic tabs that slid into the sleeves and locked in with the plastic fasteners that hold the wheel well liners in place. When the hood was closed, the covers were inaccessible. Very quick and easy to remove for cleaning and won't fly off at speed. Unfortunately, there will be 3 holes in the front bumper cover on each side.
