Formula/TA/GTA spoiler question

How many of you have made the choice and removed the aero wing that came on your car and replaced it with the standard Firebird wing? Would you go back to an aero wing if given the chance?

Re: Formula/TA/GTA spoiler question

I went with a fiberglass one. If I had to go back and didn't want to drop the $425 for a new one, I would have picked up a Z28 High Rise for like $50. I can't stand the base model wing.

Re: Formula/TA/GTA spoiler question

I went the other way around. I had the base pedistal wing and added the aero spoiler to my car. I like this look much better.

Re: Formula/TA/GTA spoiler question

I had a fiberglass repro aero on my 87 GTA & swapped it out for a 4th gen wing. Much better looking, IMNSHO.

Definately for a "in my" opinion. I feel it looks OKAY in certain angles but horrible in other angles.

Does that wing bolt on in the same locations as the standard wing?

If there ever was one that didn't match the lines or flow with the car, this would be it. It just looks like an afterthought that was just stuck on there so they could charge extra $$$ for the car.

Re: Formula/TA/GTA spoiler question

I swaped out the aero wing for a base spoiler. The areo was shot! Ever see some one cut the sides off an aero? Anyway. Tho not my favorite choice but I dont mind it. I like it better than a trashed aero or like I have seen before, nothing but a tail light sitting on the deck lid. My next plan is to do 2 deck lids, one with a 4th gen spoiler. I picked one up at a local Junkyard for $17.50. But I am removing the brake light and using a 91-92 hatch with the high light. the other one I plan to make will be different to say the least. I am going to use an SS Monte Carlo spoiler(again with the 91-92 hatch). Split it down the middle, flaten it and glass it back together. It fits the width perfectly. I like subilty (I am pretty sure I spelled that wrong, Sud-il-ty)What ever I'm sure you get it.

Re: Formula/TA/GTA spoiler question

My '91-92 spoiler has developed a couple of nice cracks eminating from the bolt holes due to the body shop that painted the hatch and wing overtightening it and stresses over time causing it to crack. I'm weighing my options on whether to replace or repair. I've got a spare decklid for a base model and was considering a Mecham wing but after reading some bad reports on it's quality I'm leaning more towards a repair or same style fiberglass replacement. I also thought about a 4th gen wing but would like to see one on a Formula with a mostly stock appearance before I commit to it.

no, it does not match any factory mount points. So it will require drilling and filling holes.
