When is it ok to tag you car "LINGENFELTER" or SLP ?

So my car is pretty heavily modified with parts from all different vendors (heavily modified, but no 10 second car yet) and i've amassed various vendor stickers over the years that just sit in a box. I've had some SLP parts in the car (SLP cam , and CAI ) and I currently have Lingenfelter parts in the car (Lingenfelter Cam, and Runners) .

Neither Lingenfelter nor SLP made an 87 IROC rendition (like a firehawk) so at what point do you think it would be okay for a person to put a "Lingenfelter" or "SLP" banner across the top of the car or even an emblem somewhere on the car ? (and not catch grief from car guys about that "not being a real..." )

*Note*: Im asking for the sake of opinion, rather than decision. Personally i'll do it even if I only have a fuel injector retainer clip from SLP and I want to represent.

What do you think?

Having lingenfelter across your windshield will definately get people's curiousity as to what you have done to your car.

I have always had "RoadShop" stickers on my cars because that was something I was part of and proud of. All of my part stickers wind up on my tool box because that is the look I prefer.

But, if you are proud of the quality parts you have put in your car then throw that banner up!

My opinion is that as long as you have one item in your car from that company and your car is decently far from stock then go for it. I wouldn't approve of someone having a spohn banner if there car doesnt have enough suspension work to handle a corner well (regardless if the suspension parts are all sphon or not).

If people see a banner on there car they expect it to be a fast/ a good handeling car/ or in trophy winning showroom condition.... don't let those people down.

Re: When is it ok to tag you car "LINGENFELTER" or SLP ?

Lingenfelter would normally be used if they built the motor or offer a 'package' for your car.

Lingenfelter corvettes would be sporting lingenfelter designed and built motor and parts.

However, I guess if you had Superram/lingenfelter camshaft, and various other items from them, maybe even their ported heads and/or tuning, then you could maybe call it a Lingenfelter car... But be ready to tell people what it has because they will be asking. They may not agree with you that its "lingenfelter" or "slp"

I agree here, dont be a poser. Dont sport a banner/advertisement unless you can really back it up with performance and/or show quality

I wouldn't put a "banner" on my car unless They specifically asked me to or if they sponsored me. If you put a "sticker" on your car with a companies name then you better have some of there equipment. That's how I see it.

Re: When is it ok to tag you car "LINGENFELTER" or SLP ?

i could fill up my fenders nascar style with vendor stickers. i would not do that or put a banner on my car. i like the look of it being "cleaner". as long as your not claiming it to be a lingenfelter car and such then that wouldn't be a problem. i think a badge would be too much. like the crazy's that put cobra badges on regular GT stangs. misrepresentation. ugh.

run a banner if you want to, just don't call it a lingenfelter edition or slp edition car, becuase they didn't offer anything for our cars then.

Somebody does. I've already seen my fair share on Civics at the track.

Its really all an appearance issue. Whether or not your ok with the idea of having decals on your vehicle. If you got the parts then thats what it comes down to. All I had from ZZP was a O2 simulator when I deleted the cat from my GP but I put a banner on the car and it was bitchin.

Re: When is it ok to tag you car "LINGENFELTER" or SLP ?

well you could also sell em if you have a lot. those kids that ride around with the cardboard groundeffects duct taped to the edges of their corollas pay big money for go fast stickers. get some of your money back. if you DO stick em to your car over time it will make the paint a different shade under the sticker so if you ever decide to peel em off you got a big issue with color matching your paint back.

seriously i wouldnt put stickers on my car. a nice clean appearance is far better than riding around in a rolling billboard.

Re: When is it ok to tag you car "LINGENFELTER" or SLP ?

I grew up knowing John Lingenfelter and several of the guys in his engine and race shops. I think it's ok to tag your car Lingenfelter after your car goes to their shop to have them build your engine/suspension. If you just slap on some of their parts and your car performs poorly and you have a Lingenfelter banner on your car, it not only makes you look stupid but drags their good name through the dirt.

For instance, My 09 Challenger R/T was used by Doug Thorley Headers for R&D. Therefore I received a free set of long tubes and I have a small Doug Thorley Decal in the bottom corner of my rear window.

Re: When is it ok to tag you car "LINGENFELTER" or SLP ?

In my view, stickers are one thing... If you like them, then by all means cover your car with them. However, badging is something different all together. Simply put, it can be badged if your car was part of a series they sponsored (which would typically mean they already did it for you). If you throw parts at your car and badge it yourself, then I think you just look silly. But hey, if silly is your thing, then by all means...

When they start paying you.

Seriously...why would you go out of your way to put some company's name on YOUR car when YOU'RE THE ONE PAYING TO BUY PARTS OFF THEM?!?!?!?!!?!? People need to stop worshiping these performance parts manufacturers and start treating them with scrutiny, criticism, and certainly do nothing for them for free. That includes not turn your car and your livelihood into a rolling billboard for free. It's your civic duty.

Does your car still have Chevy emblems on it? If GM isn't paying you, why should it?

Same could be said for shoes/jean/shirts/jackets, with the brand name on them. Why advertise for them, if your not getting paid?

Be proud of what you have & "advertise" it.

Two TOTALLY different things. There's nothing wrong with a brand name being printed on a product. My car still has factory emblems. I've got no problems with this just like I'd have no problems with Nitto printed on my sidewalls or "Craftsman" printed on my wrenches or "SLP" being tacked on my headers. This is not the same as throwing a huge banner ad on the top of your windshield. If you like Coke to you pay out of pocket to have a Coca Cola billboard built on top of your house? Do you have a big Microsoft banner pasted above your computer desk? AT&T/Comcast/DirectTV banner stuck above your television? Hell no.
