i posted this in appearance, but i want your opinnons too...

first, sorry to goosejg73 for borrowing the pic of his car from readers riders, but it looks just like mine and i needed a dead on side pic (andi have no idea what the blue things were so i removed them).

SOOOO, i was bored at work today and started to think about rims and stuff. i have a 90 firebird with the TA body kit on it, so it looks exactly like this except it has the firebird wing. anyway...i have blackouts on the back, and i am gonna black out my side marker lights and tint my windows. and i think these rims are sweet. they are darkened chrome and look different at night than during the day....but tell me what you think of this "project" car. all the work was done in photoshop....OVERKILL? or BADA**?

I know in jc whitney theyoffer headlights, that when off, are blacked out but when turned on, look like reg lights. maybe there is something like that for the side markers, or get a really,really, Really dark set of red side/amber markers.

illeagal huh? hmmmm, the blackouts are illeagal too, so heres a funny story. i was drivin up through springfield mass and on my way a tropper gets behind me. i have three guys in the car and doing 65. he throws on his lights and pulls me over. he gets me for the following: my buddy not having his seatbelt on in the back seat, traveling in the left lane, traveling too fast (what'the?), no front plate, and then walks behind my car. i am like 'doh' the blackouts. he comes back and tells me my license plate cover is illeagal becuase it reduces the reflectivity of the plate....its practically clear compared to the blackouts!! anyway...he gives me a warning for like $175 worth of fines. but it cracks me up that he never said a word about the blackouts and picked up on my plate cover instead....dumba**!! but for the record, the blackouts are illeagal in every state too....but no problems yet, its been 8 months. however, i don't know what they will say at inspections...but thats not till next summer though. maybe if i were to do the side lights i would find and extra set and do it and have two sets.....i dunno, just thinking out loud....

yea, i got pulled over 2 and the cop said nothing about my headlight covers..........

well when it come to moding the exterior lighting just about everything is illegal. Yes the cops can give you a ticket for just about everything but if they try that "no front licence plate" thing just remember that those WERE AN OPTION believe it or not! I have had many a cop try to give me a ticket for that then I bring a copy of the options list for my year mke and model to court and prove that it was an option and the case gets dismissed.
Now black covers of any kind are illegal simply because they prohibit light(no matter how much or little they still do) from going through. Thats why I do not like them. I have seen too many people get rear ended because the people behind them could not see the tail lights clearly.
I like clear tails but they are illegal for anything but show and purpose built cars. I have seen a few trucks around here with them though so I may give them a go after I make my set.
Now as far as clear turn signal and marker lights they have to have the proper colored buld in them to remain legal. If they have an orange bulb in them and they shine orange/red when turned on the cop can't do a damn thing. But tail lights are a differant story.

Now if you look throgh your local ordenance and transit laws you will find that the laws differ greatly. There are some areas where clear tails are perfectly legal. AS LONG AS THE LIGHT SHINES RED.

 

i have the "GTS Taillight Blackouts" on my car and the box says "these covers are intended for show, competition, and off road use only"
"May not be legal for highway use, check local laws"
and as i recall in the summit mag i read that they are legal in some states

I love they way mine look. at night they shine verry bright so you cant even tell.
as for the GTS headlightblackouts it says do not use at night
i know this cop and he said its not illegal as long as the red, amber and white shines through, and you are not allowed to change the colors on the lights to a mixed order.
This is in Maryland so find out for yourself.
i do think they are illegal here but i have an excuse.

Those are just little pompoms; the guy had just gotten married and they decorated his car.

Those rims would look nice on any Firebird. Personally, I would ditch the blackouts.

 

ahhh....makes sense. figured they were some kinda decoration. but i like the rims alot. as for blacking out, i don't know if i will do the parking lights....its seems to be a bit much. but we'll see thanks for the opinons and keep them coming. and thanks for the pic, the rims look sweet.

btw what size tires are those??
